Hey guys, I am only 3 and a half weeks out, so I know it is not going to happen any time soon, but can someone tell me when I should be able to eat a salad again? It's been too long!!

Some folks can do them at 6 weeks some not till a few months. I was cleared at 6 weeks but waited 3 months to try it again. I am sure I could have gone sooner.

That's what I had for lunch today, it's as good as you remember and will be worth the wait!

Hang in there!

I was able to eat just about anything after three weeks. Salads have not been hard to eat at all. Don't remember anyone saying not to way them?

Ask your doctor, each surgeon has different timetable for salad... I had to wait nearly 4 months.

WHY? try it and see what your stomach says. But it may be the pukes (the stomach might not be able to get everything 'ground up' to pass into the small intestine).

'Course, you could just put the salad into a blender and go for it.

Actually had a minced brocolli slaw (I am 3 weeks out) yesterday that went sown well.

I was cleared at three months. I can handle any of the lettuces. Dark green is the easiest. I had an Asian salad with napa cabbage- hurt like hell. That was at six months. But I can eat coleslaw without an issue.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
