anesthesia--what kind are we given

During our sleeve surgery? Is the anesthesia given to us through our IV line or is the anesthesia given through a face mask?

I keep worrying about this a lot!

Anesthesia is given via IV. You will also probably be given oxygen via a face mask

I think some of both -- you get paralytics + sedative/something to render you unconscious. Unless your surgeon/anesthesiologist does things very differently, you'll have both an IV line (probably two) as you are wheeled into surgery and be fitted with a face mask after that. I didn't have any recollection of experiencing the effects of any kind of anesthesia. I was just awake and communicating with the surgical team one minute and then *bang* waking up in the recovery room later. No sensation of either inhaling gas or feeling anesthetic enter my arm or anything like that. It wasn't scary at all.

My anesthesiologist offered a sedative (Versed) before going into surgery but I declined.

My anesthesiologist said he would give me something to make me relax. He must have injected it into my IV because one minute I'm talking to the surgical nurses and the next thing I'm in the recovery room.

The sleeve is a laparoscopic procedure so you will need to have a general anesthesia and be intubated. To do this they will use both IV and inhaled anesthetics. You won't remember this because you wil be sleeping :-) Further, you may not even remember going into the OR if you get Versed as it causes amnesia...

At our hospital our anesthesiologists have started to do tap blocks on some laparoscopic cases (different from the typical local medications the surgeon injects) . I was wondering if anyone here has had a tap block and what they thought?
