When can you eat fresh veggies? What about corn?

Recommended Posts

My post op diet says canned veggies only, when can you eat corn? What about lettuce or cucumbers? I LOVE salads, and it will be hard to do without them.

Oops...hit send too early...that was supposed to finish with "up to 3 months for some people"...but otherwise there weren't specific restrictions after 4 weeks...just have to try things and see how I do (so far at 6 weeks everything does just fine)

I was cleared to eat salads and all veggies Thursday (6 weeks post op).

Eating a salad as I type...romaine, kalamata olives (finely chopped), low fat shredded mozzarella and vinegar/oil...so far so good.

I could do fresh veggies provided they were cooked to a mushy consistency in week 3. I've been having oven roasted brussell sprouts cooked till they are really soft since week 3 and they have gone down easily.

My surgeon allows iceberg lettuce at 4 weeks and other veggies at 6 weeks as tolerated. At first I had a hard time with cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower unless they were well done (I like them crisp tender normally). Now at 4.5 months out, I tolerate all veggies. I haven't eaten corn yet bc it doesn't have as much nutritional value as other veggies and also bc of horror stories I heard of people getting corn stuck in their staple lines. But at 4.5 months out I'm sure I could have it if I wanted. Maybe I will try some local sweet corn later in the summer. But that would be one of the last veggies that I would add in and I would chew it really, really well.

One thing that you will be glad to know is that usually you can eat a higher volume of high Water content veggies than you can of, say, dense Protein. I can eat about half a cup of dense Protein but I can eat at least a cup of salad. I tend to eat veggies as Snacks bc if I eat my protein first at a meal, which I usually do, I don't have a lot of room left for veggies. If I eat as a snack, I can eat like a cup of lettuce, sweet peppers, cucumbers, etc. Sometimes I dip them in Greek yogurt with dill dip mix mixed in. Yummm...

(Well) Cooked veggies & raw lettuce & Tomato @ 4 weeks

Rest of raw veggies @ 3 months

For my plan, corn is considered more of a starch I believe. Something if we have room for if we already got in all our Protein & veggies.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
