Recommended Posts

I am snacking on pork rinds...is that ok? I know there are no carbs, it just doesnt seem like it could be healthy, although i see them used alot for recipes in cooking low carb.

Other than they could be a total slider food and are pretty much nutritionally devoid lol nothing!

I read that the Protein in them isn't digested by our bodies. Don't they have MSG too?

The Protein in Pork rinds does not count toward your protein goals because it's from collagen which is not really absorbable by humans. I've had times where I've REALLY wanted some chips but didn't want to throw myself out of ketosis so I've used porkrinds (I used them to scoop up yogurt cheese so at least I was getting some good quality protein with it) NOT a good snack choice though because a lot of calories with no nutritional value and not filling. For me porkrinds are a "sometimes treat".... like MAYBE once in a month.... and watch the portion size.. a small bag as like three servings!

I know, I like them too and I felt the same way when I learned about the difference in Protein ..... Now I'm just waiting for someone to tell me that my beloved Quest Protein Bars are bad for me.. Every time I eat one, I think "OMG, these are so delicious... how can they POSSIBLY have so much Protein and Fiber?-What's the catch?"

Sheesh. I didn't know the Protein wasn't absorbed. It says right on the bag I used to buy that they are not a significant source of Protein and I always thought, well they are for me!

Live and learn.

While it is not proven, and several schools of thought say it just isn't possible, there is a slim chance that eating collagen heavy foods could be good for your skin's elasticity and prevent wrinkles.........so you could carry on with your Pork rinds as research into whether it leads to glowing skin!

I know I love having chickens feet when we go to yum char restaurants and use the same rationale for eating their glutinous goodness, I eat chickens feet to stave off crows feet!

I used to love Pork rinds when doing the Atkins diet!! Oh but I still stayed fat and needed surgery.... Damn!

Oh and the Quest bars? It's funny you should mention them, I was just looking at their website OMG they make those things look so good

(Did you see the Peanut Butter cups)

There has got to be something bad about them because they look so good! I just don't know what it is :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
