I had my surgery done on Thursday evening and Im 3 days into my liquid Protein diet.. I'm feeling pretty good.. Yesterday was my first full day home and I'm just wondering if this is ok as far as my diet intake. I know it will get better day my day: yesterday I had 1 - 3.24 oz Jello / 1 can 11oz pure Protein 32 grams of protein / 1 sf ice pop / 2oz of Water... Today so far Iv had - 1 sf ice pop and 1/2 can of pure protein and about 2 oz of Water .. I guess I'm just wondering if this is normal with others for only being able to have this small amount??

Another question is occasionally Iv been have this cramping feeling in my stomach that lasts about 4 seconds then goes away.. Is this normal? Then also when I drink anything I get this gurgling feeling in my esophagus and tummy area.. Has this ever happened to anyone?

Sounds like you're progressing normally! Keep working on your fluid/protein intake and I'm sure your doctor will be happy! The gurgling is absolutely normal - I'm gurgling as I type (sipping on Tomato Soup at the moment). Our bellies are healing and working on letting things get through :).

As for the cramping pain, I'm sure that's normal as well - random cramps and pains have been part of recovery thus far for me as well. If it gets more serious, definitely consult with your doctor!

I'm a fan of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury - I have 4 of their flavors that I've been using daily (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry & chicken Soup). I've never been too picky on Protein powder, though, and find that if you google "Protein shake recipes," you'll find some creative uses for what you already have! For instance, this morning's Protein Shake was:

  • 2 handfuls of ice
  • 1 scoop of vanilla cream protein
  • 1 cup brewed coffee
  • 1 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1/2 frozen banana

All of the above are allowed by my doctor and made a yummy drink for me to easily get some Protein in! Heck, it's 1:30pm and I've already consumed 57g protein today.

Long story short - I think any Protein Powder is just fine, but start googling how to be more creative with it!

I had gurgling and burping with every swallow of liquid my first few days, but that has stopped now.

I tried several different types of RTE Protein shakes, and my favorite is the "Eat Good Look Great" brand, and I like all the flavors- vanilla, banana, chocolate, and Cookies n cream. I buy it at the Vitamin Shoppe, but I'm sure it sells other places as well.

I will eventually start making my own shakes and putting more healthy ingredients in, but for now I am opting for convenience and buying them ready made.

I've had the gurgling and burping also. I'm 2 weeks out and eating soft foods. Every once in a while I feel a twinge in my stomach at eating. It's telling me to slow down....I also use Unjury and Syntrax nector. A choc shake with almond milk and throw in a couple of nice fresh picked strawberries...yummy. Good luck!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
