I was sleeved 6/12 and I'm still in pain doesn't help that I'm sleeping on my back sitting up. When were y'all able to sleep on your side? At least the opposite side?

I'm a stomach sleeper and I was sleeping on my stomach in the hospital, I put a pillow under the tender side and slept just fine.

I will also add I have a very high pain threshold. Very little postop pain with c-section, gall bladder, and VSG. No pain meds postop with any of the three after the IV was removed.

I am a rotisserie and sleep on all 4 sides.

I took a little Tylenol PM each night which seemed to allow me to move comfortably and sleep soundly most of the night.

LOL @VSGKirk - I, too, am a rotisserie and found I had no problem sleeping in my bed immediately after surgery. If I noticed discomfort, I slept atop one of my European (large square) pillows to cushion my tummy.

I cold at about 10 days. My right lower incision hurt everytime I tried sleeping on my right side til then. Sleeping on my back caused a whole new set of back pains

Try using a heating pad. I've used mine since I came home on Tuesday and its great. I've been sleeping on my side since I was moved to my room in the hospital. Also try cuddling a pillow to your tummy.

The first night home I didn't sleep a wink because I kept rolling to my side and could not get comfortable. The second night home I sort of rolled up a pillow on the side of me and then rolled onto it to cushion my tummy. I was in heaven! I almost cried, I was so grateful I could actually get some sleep. From then on, it was a piece of cake. Good luck!

After about 4-5 nights I slowly rotated more and more to my side. While on my side I put a pillow underneath my stomach to help support it. It actually didn't hurt as bad as you think when I just laid on my stomach.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
