I would ask your surgeon some questions like: why do you prefer robotic vs trad. laparoscopic...how many sleeves have you done this way vs other...what are the added risks of robotic...what risks are mitigated w robotic...what type of training did you have to go through on this new tool?

I agree totally. ANY medical proceedure or even diagnoises should be reviewed with your doctor. There are no "stupid" questions. My "interview" with him was loaded with these questions and more. In fact, the whole team was questioned.

Thanks

You have to be stupid not to know that any surgery comes with risk' date=' but I have a problem when hospital are pushing this surgery just to recoup cost. An the reason for getting the machine in the first place is not because they think it will benefit patients. But to compete with other hospital and it scary that the maker of this machine is doing all of the pushing, not the medical community.

You might want to do a little more research your self no one is saying the machine is bad. But there are issues that need to be looked into.[/quote']

I agree with you. I was just saying the risk is just as equal that is all. I spent over a yr researching and met with 4 surgeons before deciding. Progression will always aim for newer technology.

My surgeon has done over 1,000 bariatric surgeries via robotics and his partners have each done the same. Out of the five of them, they have only had one leak in their practice ever. He actually left the morning after my surgery to go train new doctors at Jon Hopkins medical center on how to use the equipment and we know that's a top medical facility.

I'm happy with the decision I made.

My insurance covered the robot, the others that had surgery same time as me had Lap. They are doing fine, but I must say my journey as far as tolerating liquids and food, as well as healing time has been much better and faster. Go for the robot!!! It's the best thing I have ever done for myself.

I had the robotic surgery as well. My sister is a surgical RN who worked in a bariatric practice and introduced me to the idea of having the sleeve. One thing she said was that the risk for infection was reduced with robotic surgery. My surgeon teaches this technique so I was very confident in him. My experience was excellent, with no complications.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
