Some ideas post-liquid stage

Recommended Posts

So I'm a huge foodie and I just got surgery, so naturally I'm planning ahead ways to both quell the foodie inside of me and stick to the diet as much as possible.

  • Mixing mashed potatoes with lots of veggies (cauliflower is great)
  • I make potato salad with corn, carrots, and peas, and replace most of the mayo with yogurt (haven't tried this post-op yet, obviously, but an idea for a small serving in case of a craving)
  • Soaking crackers or a small slice (the crust off one side?) of bread in Soup before eating it so it's already expanded
  • Lentils? Has anyone eaten those post-op?

I figured I should figure some of these things out before I get to that stage, so I figured I'd see if anyone here has tried or wants to try any of the above. I know the potato salad is something I used to make a lot, and it was so filled with veggies and the yogurt gave it extra Protein. I'm excited to be able to try just a bite of that in a month or so.

EDIT: I also heard that toasting the bread helps (thus why I suggested crackers soaked in soup)?

Hummus. And you can make it yourself. I found a recipe for avocado hummus. I would avoid the bread and crackers though until you are further out. I did different Beans just made sure they were soft. Also chicken and tuna salads.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
