Who has actually reached goal?

Recommended Posts

And in how long? What was your starting/goal weight? My surgeon keeps saying that 60% loss is considered a success. But I'd like to lose 100% excess!

I've reached over 60% (60lbs of 95 I want to lose) at <5months from surgery. I'm still losing 1-2lbs a week. I am determined to make it to 100% through exercise and changing what I eat. I think the 60% number is what is relatively easy to lose and the rest you really have to work to get it.

There's scads of folks here and on other bariatric boards who have reached and surpassed goal. I am at 80% right now - and while my Doc says that I am a super success statistically - I am going for my own goal which is 100% EWL - perhaps even more once that milestone is achieved, I will reassess at that time. Not everyone will lose all of their weight within the 'magic' year - or even the magic 24 months post surgery. Remember that the surgery is a tool - just keep doing what you are supposed to and you will get there.

I'm at 80%. I started at 338 lbs and I'm currently at 189. My goal is 159 which is a normal BMI. I was sleeved 10/10/12 and started my pre-op diet July 2012

I'm about 3 lbs from my personal goal. I have surpassed my surgeon's goal. Now I'm working on dropping the last 3 lbs and maintaining that......I love my sleeve...:P

I have. I worked very hard on the NUT program pre-op and lost about 25 pounds. Now I am at goal and learning this process. It is new to me and at times I laugh when I am folding my clothes to think that fits me!! My shoulders are wider than my hips!! That is shocking. I am not perfect or a super workout freak. I ride an exercise bike, lift some weights (5-10 lb), and do stretches. But I read the information the clinic gave me (several times) and do what they said. I have slipped up but I get right back on the plan.

I was sleeved on March 8, 2013, just over 3 months ago. I am at 74% right now. I wasn't a high BMI'er to begin with, my BMI was 36. I started at 274, and am now 212. My doctor's goal is 190. That still puts me 1 lb. above the normal range on the BMI chart. I'd like to lose maybe 5-10 lbs more than that. I've been 190 before, like 15-20 years ago, and was very happy being that weight. All of my health problems were weight related. I've gotten off the BP medication within 3 months. I won't know for another couple of months whether I can stop using my CPAP machine for sleep, because insurance won't cover another sleep study until then.

I have lost 75% of my excess weight. I am still losing an average of 3 lbs per week. At that rate, I should reach 100% by mid July. I had my surgery on 2/28/13.

Who has actually reached goal?

I have i have - 100%!!!!

jumping up and down doing raising my hand

while doing the happy dance, rubbing my little tummy, and chewing SF gum at the same time :)

the sky is the limit to what % you want to lose

sure losing 60 + % is a success

sometimes i think docs use that low % so they can show their (docs) % rate of patients being successful

i "mark" my goal date at one year PO

i was fluctuating a couple of lbs - but i was at goal

now 6 months since goal - i am maintaining

i might slip here or there - (most/all of do sometimes) but i am doing well - enjoying GOAL

weight fluctuates about 2 lbs on occassion

maintenance can be harder than losing the weight

but i think we all know that

we had that prob with our yo yoing before  gaining the weight back

i continue to say and believe - that for me - with the aide of the sleeve - i will keep my weight at goal, fluctuating here and there at times

i/we have gone through "too much" - major surgery to help us lose weight - i can not go backwards now

in the past i, as all others, have gone through too many "personal" issues being overweight - self-esteem, confidence et al

and more importantly all the health problems associated with our weight

now i'm so happy i feel like i could burst sometimes, really

and.........this 59 year old grammy - is cute as a button

go to my profile, check out my before and after pictures

i'm enjoying the healthier, happier, longer life that we all want

i am proudly showing off my stats

DOS

12/15/11

235 lbs

5'3

present

130 lbs

GOAL

still 5'3

you can do anything you set your mind to

follow all the rules

i know you and everyone else will be a great success story

good luck

kathy

I am at 80% loss of excess body weight which is just awesome. My surgery was the end of May 2012 and my starting weight was 135.5 kilos which is just under 300 pounds. I am now at 86 kilos which was my surgeon's goal for me. I never really had a goal, but now aim for just over the top of the BMI normal range for my height which means I have 10 kilos to go. Which is about 25 pounds. I have skin issues on my tummy that I know will not go without surgery so I consider it realistic to not aim for a weight lower than possible or healthy

Even if it takes me another year, I am good with that.

I recently did one of those electronic body analysis things with a trainer at the gym. The fantastic news there was my visceral fat levels were well within normal range as was my muscle. Further to that test I discovered my waist to height ration to be smack bang in the middle of the normal range. It was a happy day!

That said, every day has been a happy day for me since the end of May 2012 :-)

I keep saying my goal is 10 lbs less than my younger sister!!

My goal was always 150 but then I started reading the 60-70% stats and decided I better lower it to have more motivation, so I dropped my goal to 135. Haven't asked my surgeon what her goal for me is.

Thanks everyone! I love reading your responses! Im starting at 290 at 5'3" and I'd loveeeeee to get down to 130. My nutritionist said its never going to happen. He's a jerk though, and very against surgery.

I'm just nervous that no matter how strict I am I won't lose it, but you all give me hope!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
