The 5:2 diet

Recommended Posts

I'm thursday too. Decaf and an ESA carb control over ice. Its going to get to 111 here in a couple of days! 98 today. salad with Brussels sprouts and cucumbers (hows that for weird!?) Then the other half calories for dinner. It must be hard being out... We work so hard to stay in the groove, being out of the cumfort zone makes that hard. However traveling to new places is all about being out of your comfort zone. The Toboggan ride looks so fun! I did one of those before I lost weight while in New Zealand... it was a blast. Have a great time.

Hey Laura- that toboggan ride looks like so much fun! You are doing so good to be out there and living life. Is tht a broken arm in the picture?? Did I miss something in one of your posts? That would be really hard to run with or do any activities with. I hope the stomach bug your husband has blows over soon. No fun!!

Haha Andy! That's my big fat finger that I sliced open (and stuck in front of the camera) the day before. One of the perks of living with a ER P.A. Is that he derma- bonded it all up and wrapped it :P

My husband is still so sick. :( I spent the afternoon downtown shopping. You know I did this surgery for health but I must admit shopping is kinda fun too.

FYE,

Brussel spouts and cucumber salad? Two things I love, but I'm not picturing them together...

So weird yes :D

So far I've had some yogurt today.. dinner is iffy because I'm not sure where we (the kids and I) will be going..

I am on Thursday too, Mondays and Thursdays. As crazy as it sounds, some fast food places have great options (McDonald's salads with no cheese, dressing or nuts...most come in under 200 calories). I am not promoting eating fast food, but if you are eating out....

So far today, greek yogurt with strawberries and All Bran at lunch time (actually more like 1:30, but I was busy). Making some chicken for supper with some veggies.

Have a great Fast everyone!

Great backup data for 5:2 or AF.

Conclusion

The use of intermittent fasting offers the potential to improve weight loss and enhance the cardiovascular health of overweight and obese individuals with type 2 diabetes and reduces cardiovascular risk. This type of intervention is cost-effective and associated with a low risk of adverse events.

Thanks for the link to this thread. this sounds like just what I've been looking for. I have a friend that's doing very well with something she calls intermittent fastIing.

I Just need to read this and figure out what you guys are talking about. This seems logical to me. I was thinking about fasting but I was not sure if it was just Water , or how exactly you fast.

I'm 10 weeks out & only 34 lbs. down...50 total (inc. presurgery) Is it too soon to do this program? Or would it be ok to try? (I feel like my results are much slower than everyone's & this might be something I should try)

I am always sad when someone says I'm "only" down so much. You have done amazing...put in perspective, you have lost over 3 pounds a week for the last 10 weeks. If I was you, I would just wait on trying any diets and focus on making healthy changes and healing from your surgery. All of us on here working with this diet right now are over 2 years post op and fully healed.

And my biggest piece of advice...do not compare your weight loss and your journey to anyone else. You will drive yourself crazy! I am not sure how much you need to lose, but everyone loses at different paces. Someone that needs to lose 80 lbs will likely lose slower than someone that needs to lose 180lbs. I was a slower loser and it took me 18 months to reach my goal weight. When I stopped comparing and just started accepting, I felt much better and much more at peace.

I agree with sweetums, you are doing awesome and should not compare to others... It's hard I know but we really shouldn't expect to lose it all in 6, 8, 9 months or even a year out.

Be good to yourself, you are doing wonderful :)

5:2 or fastdiet is what it's called. Some do every other day but I don't think it's maintainable. For lifestyle and maintenance 5:2 works the best. There are lots of links here for review and we are all doing well I think. I was down another pound today making 14 in three weeks. That's high. Normal is 1-2 week but I've "cleaned up" my diet every day and logging every thing. It's truly made a huge difference for me and a way to go forward towards true maintenance and lifestyle. Good luck!

Bbbarbie, I agree. Stick with your Drs instruction and plan. It will come off and you will be better off while still healing. Good Luck! Connect with others who are at your stage so you have a real community of folks who are where you are right now.

You're right I shouldn't compare but it hard not to do when you see chicks dropping 70+ in less time than you. LOL but a loss is a loss!

Thank you! I will definitely keep this program in my back pocket for a later date ;0)

I tried to do the fast days 4 different times. I was successful the first day only. I think the plan is really good. I am just not ready to fast all day, yet.

Sounds good BBBarbie, you are doing great! Just let the sleeve work for you at this point. If you need this 5:2 after a year or so, we will be here with the lowdown on doing it for a while. We are your guinea pigs! Most of us here have never reached goal, or reached it then started gaining and needed something to get back on track. I never reached goal at 2 1/2 years, so that is why I jumped into this and it has gotten things moving. Come back when you really need it, you are doing fantastic now! Time will fly and you will be at a year sooner than you think!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
