Still sore from the IV

I've always been someone who has hard veins to get blood from. Recently, my docs office and nurses at hospital called me a "roller" because my veins tend to move and play peek-a-boo. So, I was sleeved 5/23 and the morning of surgery it took 2 nurses a good 30+ min to get my IV started...fast forward to 2+ weeks later that arm is still sore. It looked a little bruised the day after, but that's gone...it's just sore as hell. Has anyone else had this issue?

Yes mine are sore as hell too. It took 3 sticks to get an iv on me. I hope you feel better soon.

Oh wait- I just read 2 weeks later it's still sore. That sounds unusual to me. Maybe someone else will chime in with better info.

I wonder if you bled out into your arm a bit and your body hasn't absorbed the blood yet. Sounds painful!!

I don't know if it was luck of the draw or what, but neither the week before when they took blood for labs nor the day of surgery did they hurt me too much with needles. And absolutely no bruising afterwards either time - I was shocked.

I consider it making up for the one time about a year ago when I went to my doctor's office for labs and she stuck me THREE TIMES in each arm for blood AND THEN decided to get someone with more experience!

Apparently being dehydrated makes it harder for them to stick you properly - lesson learned!

I have the same problem, but one smart nurse applied a warm pad on the inside of my elbow. He said this would make the vein pop up and stabilize. All I know is that it worked. Since I have this problem, I tell the nurse, etc. which vein has worked the best in the past. Sorry about the pain.

Lab techs are all the same, they never listen when I tell who ever it is you will not find a vein take the blood from the top of my hand and we can go on about our business. Do they ever listen? Absolutely not and I go through this same routine every single time I have to give blood.

I had the same problem. I'm 2 weeks out and it's just now getting better. My nurse told me that some of the drugs she was giving me would burn my veins so I figured it was sore from that. I iced my hand every night. It will go away. But it did hurt for a while.

Mine took about a month to feel better. I am 10 weeks out and still have the mark where the IV was.

It's possible you have phlebitis. Keep a close eye on it and it's it's swollen, purple/red blotchy and spreads you need to be checked out. If it turns out to be phlebitis you need antibiotics and topical pain crm. Pain will last several weeks.

Or you could just be sore from the attempts they made.

I know what you mean! I have a daughter that has several heart defects and has been in and out of hospitals all 3 1/2 years of her little life. She too has difficult veins and I tell the techs EVERY TIME that she needs someone very experienced to lessen the torture of being stuck multiple times, and they NEVER listen!!!!! It really, REALLY angers me to no end.

My arm always stays sore for a long time.....I wouldn't worry to much about it
