1week post op 72 oz fluid/day

Recommended Posts

Does this seems like a lot? I can drink 12 oz in an hour. I feel happy that I can get all my fluids in, but am concerned that I am doing something that will make my sleeve less restrictive in the future. What is your experience with this one everyone?

I am two weeks post op and just up to 64 oz a day. That is all my doctors want me at. Of course when it is hot I drink more. For me it took a weeks before I could even do 8 oz an hour. I don't know what your doctor says though. For me I drank everything with super tiny sips so I wouldn't have pressure in my new sleeve

I drank 80 ounces my first day post op! My IV wasn't working right and I was getting dehydrated so the doctor reluctantly told me I could try rehydrate orally.. though he didn't think I'd be able to drink that much so early on. I had no issues drinking other than some spasms during the first few days if the drinks were too cold.. My first day out of the hospital, I could drink 16 ounces of chicken broth in one sitting and drink a whole bottle of Water or gatorade. On day three post op, I was drinking some herbal tea and I accidentally took a three swallow gulp.. and felt nothing..... No pressure, no nothing.... I felt like you, I was happy but also worried because I was different than most people.. It was just because I didn't have inflammation in my sleeve so it was open.. Even when I started on things like yogurts and cottage cheese, I could eat more than most people.. I didn't really feel real restriction until I started eating chicken and meats.< /p>

Thank you SO much! It is reassuring to know. I start full liquids tomorrow so I will see how it feels for thicker liquids. Not swollen - that makes so much sense cuz that's the reason it's so hard to go down in the first place. Whew! What a relief :-) thanks serendipity!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
