I feel like I need a realistic picture of how much I will lose and what time frame. My surgery is july 1. I'm 239 and 5'2. I want to be down at least 100 jan 20. Am I insane? What's the average weight loss per week?

if there is anything I've learned since joining this site, it's that everybody's weight loss pattern is different...sometimes I think the variance is partially because different doctors have different post-surgery diets...mine did not have any such requirements; therefore, I started surgery day at 0 lbs lost...others have gone on three month pre-ops and lost 50 lbs pre-surgery...then others have 2 week liquid diets pre-op and can lose 20 or 30 lbs before surgery...you and I are the same height but I weighed 268 on surgery date and am down about 20 lbs since then...so I am not even where you are at now...I would think that the less weight overall you have to lose, the less quickly it would come off...but that is just intuitive thinking on my part

I asked my doc the same thing and she didn't have an answer. No way to know what your body will or will not do :( But it will be a loss so that's good, right? :D

An average, healthy weightloss is 1-2 pounds per week. Some go higher. Some don't make that.

I think it is aggressive but possible. Unfortunately, this is something you cannot predict 100%. You will need to have a strict plan that includes exercise as soons as possible. Do your best to get in the recommeded amounts of Fluid and Protein as well, it will make a difference. Many also have success by limiting carbs during the loss phase, you can see if that helps you maximize your loss. Good luck.

If your number one goal is just to lose weight as fast as possible without regard to consequences you are being a bit short sighted. If you are doing this for health and you accept the weight loss that comes along with it, learning to pay attention to your body and it's needs along the way, you will be much happier, I think, with the results. I am 5'2". My HW was 257 about 18 months ago. When I decided to pursue WLS, I began changing some eating habits. My SW on February 4 was 241. Today I am 202. I have lost 55 pounds and I still have 70 to go. Since you really cannot fully control how fast you lose, my advice would be to keep an open mind, concentrate on good overall health habits and avoid the pitfall of disappointment if it all doesn't go the way you planned.

I find it more helpful to set smaller goals so at each little goal you can Celebrate and then move to next goal, bc set goal at 175 which means 91lbs. I'm a little more than half way to goal and 1.6 lbs until my next small goal. It makes it feel overwhelming to say I have this huge number to go, I'm 3 mo out on 12th and currently down 48.4 so hopefully down 50 by 3 mo mark and weight loss slowed down in last month and have ups and downs. So guess depends on how you follow plan and how active you are. Good luck

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
