Drinking & eating & eating & drinking

Recommended Posts

So my NUT has made it clear that I can drink liquids up until the time I eat a meal. BUT there is no drinking at all until at least 30 min after a meal. What do you guys do when it comes to Snacks though, especially with the need to get all that Protein in? I sometimes get extremely thirsty after eating, but when I drink something, then there is pain.

I'm finding that when I get thirsty while eating (meal OR snack), I end up stopping eating maybe even before I am full, because i know that the sooner I stop eating, the sooner the 30 min will be up & I can drink!

I'm also really seeing the importance of staying well hydrated throughout the day so that I don't get as crazy-thirsty as often. I was told no drinking 20-30 minutes prior to eating as well as the 30 min wait after.

I get thirsty after meals too. I have to move my glass because I have been known to drink without realizing it.

Old habits die hard!

Yea, I have to move my glass away as well.. It's a hard habit to break. I was told to stop 15-20 mins before eating also.

This is the hardest thing. I can't even bring my drink to the table. I am so used to drink drink drinking. I truly despise this rule even though I totally get it.

See that's what I was thinking. I just don't get a drink when I'm eating so there is no tempting liquid around.

It's the only way for me. WWs had me trained to take a huge drink with every bite and after 20 years of that, it's hard not to. If there is a glass of Water on the table, it will be gone without my knowledge by the end of the "meal". So, nope, no drinks at the table anymore.

It is habit now, but when I am home I don't even have a glass on the table, and some times forget that OTHER people DO drink and fail to put ice in glasses for iced tea. :) When we are at a restaurant, I try and get two glasses of Water with lemon down before the meal is served. I can drink until I start eating, then have to wait 30 minutes afterwards.....so I make the most of ice cold water and lemon. It makes me feel better about the coffee I drink. I know I have more than I should, but I'm hydrated and the color of the toilet water is barely more than clear, so I'm saying "it is all good"

Omg that's funny! I never knew that about WWs!

I used to drink several glasses of Water when eating. The waitress at my favorite restaurant always knew to just leave the pitcher for me! Learning not to drink while eating took some practice. The absolute best thing that helped me was just to make sure I drank plenty PRIOR to eating. One trick when out at a restaurant with friends is to drink your Water and visit while everyone else is having appetizers. Then when the meal arrives you're all hydrated and you haven't already filled up your little belly on appetizers!

As far as Snacks go, yeah I follow the same not eating and drinking rule too... sometimes I will have to put off my snack for a little while so I can drink first but it definitely makes the snack more enjoyable when I'm not thirsty!

15-20-30 min rule for me. Stop 15 prior, eat for 20, wait 30 mins after. I wish I had practiced it more prior to surgery. It's getting easier. I found, especially in the beginning, the method to be like a full time job in order to get enough of everything in.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
