My mom is making me want to scream

Recommended Posts

I'm built like my Dad. I did the pre-work on my own, talked it over with my sister. Then I told my parents I was doing it - once my mind was made up. My Mom offered to fly in for the surgery and I almost didn't let her. It was a challenge, but I was glad she was coming to "hold my hand" pre-op.

First thing we had to do was grocery shop (I was on the Clear liquids 24hrs before at that point). (Why she did the BOGO on the lettuce and left it for me I'll never know, but hey, my neighbors appreciated it.) She didn't stay at the hospital once I was out of surgery, didn't communicate to the family beyond that I was OK (she went shopping), and she flew out the morning after I got home. I had to drive myself to a doctor's appointment and had to go very slowly because I was still so shaky.

However, I'm so independent if it had gone differently we could have killed each other. I thought about what it would mean if she came, was honest about my fears (we have almost come to blows sharing the same roof before - she raised me to be very independent), and she was honest about her "not doing the hospital thing". It was what it was.

A friend who had surgery the week later was in the hospital with her family (husband and kids) and hadn't told her parents. Her husband ended up telling them for her. I was shocked. I was very open with everyone once my mind was made up - even on Facebook. But I was clear - if you weren't going to support me, please unfriend me now, that type of thing.

Good luck in dealing with your Mom, and I hope she comes through for you. And I think it's a toss up between coming with Cookies and trying to grocery shop on the way home for who's Mom is more oblivious! :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
