How soon before chlorine/swimming?

Recommended Posts

I want to join a Water aerobics class this summer and thought that would be a great easy workout for my recovery but am wondering how long before its safe to swim in a public pool, an yes they use chemicals.

Starting weight 321- sleeve date 07/10/10. Sent from my iPhone using VST

I assume you have a typo on your sleeve date and meant to put 07/10/13 and you are not sleeved, yet.

6 weeks is the minimum recommended by my Dr, but you have to be sure all of your incisions are completely scared over. Not healed ... scared over ... sealed completely ... no scabs ... nothing.

So, you would be looking just before Labor Day before getting in the pool.

At my one month exam, my doctor took a look at my completely healed incisions and cleared me for swimming and Water aerobics. I wouldn't have done it without him looking at the incisions and approving.

I was told by my doctor two weeks. Every doctor is different.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
