Sorry for posting so much lately, but now that I have a date I have so many questions!

So my mom and I have both been going through the process to get the sleeve. 2 different surgeons, 2 different insurance companies. My stuff has gone smoothly, she's had a lot of issues with insurance and her office (paperwork stuff). I finally got a date for July 3rd! So she put in for a week vacation time to help me with the kids while I recover (my husband works a job where unless its a serious emergency he can't take time off). So her surgeon calls her yesterday and says her surgery will be on June 27.. The week before mine!! She still thinks she will be ok to help, but I know she can't. So now I'll be recovering alone with a 1 year old, and 3.5 year old. Am I being unrealistic? Anyone come home from the hospital and get thrown right back into mommy life?

You will not be able to lift them. This could be a problem

That's what I'm thinking. My 3.5 year old is very self sufficient, but the one year old is needy.

But, the one year old can walk and climb the couch.. It's really just in and out of the crib and highchair that he would need lifting

I have a 1 year old and a 5 year old and stay home with the youngest during the day, I work afternoons. There is NO WAY you can take care of them for 2 whole weeks. If you try you are only going to negate your recovery, not worth trying!!! Have yours or your moms surgery rescheduled. Seriously, don't attempt to lift, chase and take care of children. Especially your older mother. I would guess her recovery will be longer assuming everything goes well for both of you.

I had no lifting restrictions and was fine caring for my 2 & 4 year olds. Maybe your mom can come help and you two can work together.

This is what she thinks we should do. She's only in her early 50's so she's a young granny lol, but I just feel bad looking at the baby and not picking him up..

I am in the same boat as you as far as having a SO that can't take off of work. My surgery falls on a Monday and I'll be out of the hospital the next day. He will only be able to take 1 day off (and that's pushing it). My son weighs about 30lbs and only crawls. My surgeon told me not to lift him at all for the first week, 2 if at all possible. I'd say reschedule yours if you can. I still haven't really figured out what I'm going to to with getting my son into his crib for his morning nap (my SO does work only about 2min away from home so I may have to see if he can drive home to put him in and take him out). I didn't listen hen I had gallbladder surgery (and after my c-section) about not lifting the little one and wound up really hurting my recovery so do what you can to listen to the lifting restrictions.

I would make it work. Start now with your son making him do alot more to help you. Him climb unto your lap. Maybe let him not sleep in his baby bed that week maybe he can sleep with you or. Maybe it's time for a toddler bed. I know my children were very independent 1 year olds and you have weeks to work at it. Your mom can still help you. I mean a week out I went back to work and work with special needs children and adults and I was fine. I just didn't lift them.

First of all congrats to you and your mom!

You know some people have a really fast recovery but I wouldn't plan on either of you having a fast recovery (always plan for the worst and hope for the best). I'm 8 days post op and there is no way I could take care of two small children but I am feeling pretty good just not THAT good.

Is there somewhere the kids can go while your husband is at work?

That's probably what I'll do. My husband is home at night so he can always do bath/bed time. I guess we can eat "picnic" style so I don't have to put him in his highchair.

I have a friend that also has a 4 year old. So I can always send the older one to her, but the baby is veryyy attached to me and will only let either my mom or husband care for him (if I'm not there).

I don't have kids and I had an extremely easy recovery, However for a few weeks I would get completely exhausted and have to stop everything and lie down. This would happen with no warning. Because of this I would not have been able to care for a child let alone lift one.

Good luck, I am sure you will find a solution.

My dr showed me how to manage with a 1 year old. Of course avoid the lifting, but at times you cant , you sit and let him crawl onto your lap and then you get up. This is something your mom can do when she's a week or so out.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
