What to do when your surgeon leaves town.......

Recommended Posts

So I get the mail yesterday, and in it is a letter from my surgeon's office stating that after May 31 (last week) he is no longer practicing at the bariatric center at the hospital I went to. Not only that, the M.D. that was there is also leaving! They do have a new surgeon coming in and the it sounds like the staff, including the PAs are going to still be there. My question is this - has anyone every had this happen to them? And is it worth continuing to follow up with them? The hospital is an hour away and I don't feel like I have gotten very good support from them due to that fact. Also, every time I go I end up feeling like a failure because I haven't lost the weight they think I should have by now. I"m thinking of just sticking with my primary care doctor closer to home at this point since I have been forturnate to not have had any complications and am almost 7 months out. I know people who go to Mexico obviously can't follow up with their surgeons. Any thoughts?

I had the surgery the same time as you. I see my surgeon at the end of the month and then not till 1 yr out. All my blood work was done at 4 months out and that won't be done till 1 yr out also. I think you will still need support group meetings at least till you get to goal. You are a slow loser like me. I would still go to appointments with the new dr. Or if you choose your PCP make sure he runs all the appropriate blood work on follow ups.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
