Help!First day on soft foods has been rough

Recommended Posts

Today i had my one month visit with my surgeon since my surgery on May 3rd. My doctor has had me on liquids for the entire month and today i was told i can start eating soft foods. First attempt at it was a spoonful of hummas and a deviled egg....felt horrible after had a feeling of heat come over me felt clammy and had to lay down? Second attempt a few hours later was acheese and that went down good and then a few hours later mushed up avacado and just the deviled egg mixture, felt uncomfortable going down and lots of burping is this normal? Im frustrated. Any suggestion? Ideas on what else i can they to eat.

Try cutting out the eggs for a little while, for some reason a lot of people have a hard time with them in the beginning.. I would get hot and clammy too if I ate to fast or ate something that didn't agree with me.

Also try just one new thing at a time take a tiny bite and let it sit with you for a few minutes to see how it feels..

You can try fish, turkey meatballs, low sodium deli meat.

And the 'one new thing' at a time is a good suggestion too.

For the 1st 2 weeks after my liquids stage I'm only allowed to add cottage cheese, yogurt, refried Beans, creamy Soup.< /p>

No eggs or cheese for me until the next stage. So maybe stick with really soft thru the transition?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
