Hello there. I haven't posted much on here. I'm Sara and I had my surgery on Dec 10th 2012 in Las Vegas by Dr. Atkinson. My husband Sean also had the surgery 1 week before me. He is 9 lbs away from his goal and I'm 26 lbs away from mine. I can't tell you how happy I am that I did this. It was the best decision I ever made. I now can run around with our 2 daughters age 3 and 8. I don't feel the way I used to feel when I look in the mirror. When I was at my heaviest I was 280. The day before surgery my weight was 266 and today it's 176!!! I was in a size 24 pants and 3x shirts. As of now I'm in a size 12-14 pants and a size Lg shirt. I'm also only 5'2''. I wasn't always a big girl. I didn't start gaining my weight until I was 20. So to be at one point 135 and go all the way up to 280 was a huge problem. As a woman I didn't feel attractive, I hated the looks I always got from ppl, I had so many limitations, I couldn't do what I wanted with my girls and I had obstacles in my career. I would cry all the time over the way I felt. I don't have any of those feelings anymore. I feel like a completely new and better me. It's been wonderful that my husband and I are doing this together. The picture that I attached, the 1st 2 pics were taken on May 18th 2013 and the 3rd was on Dec 23rd 2012. I'm the happiest I have been in many yrs.

Congrats to you!!! You look great!

Do you mind if I ask what your exercise regimen has been? And approx how many calories you now eat this far out? (I'm getting sleeved next week)

congrats and thanks for sharing! this was especially inspiring for me, because we had similar starting stats...I am also 5'2" and weighed 268 on my surgery date (about 4 weeks ago)...I was wearing size 22/24 pants and 2X tops...my personal goal is 150 lbs....if I could lose 90 lbs. in six months, I would be thrilled! Since surgery, I am just down 20 lbs., so I have a ways to go

@ Rebecca thank you so much. As far as exercise I don't do as much as I should. I walk as much as possible and have a very young healthy big dog I like to walk and play with. I am on the go a lot with my 2 young girls age 3 and 8. I would like to exercise more. We have a pool in the backyard and I'm going to get some resistance weights to use in the pool. I have some extra skin in my arms and legs but I'm sure I can minimize that quite well. My stomach area has more extra skin than I would like. I'm hoping to get that down as much as I can too. As far as calories each day it's around 1000-1200. Congratulations on getting sleeved soon. You're going to be so happy and if you have any questions I'm always here. Thanks again.

@ Tigerbelle, We do have very similar stats. My goal weight is also 150. You're doing amazing!! 20 lbs in 4 weeks is great and I know you can do it. I sometimes feel that I'm stuck and don't lose it as fast as I would like. I'm impatient sometimes. My husband has lost 140 lbs. He had his surgery only 1 week before me. I keep telling myself he's a man and will lose it faster, he's also 6'3'' and he had a lot of problems in the beginning and I haven't had any problems at all. To lose 90 lbs in 6 months is a wonderful thing. Keep in mind everyone loses differently. I'm so happy for you and you're going to rock this.

@ Pixie Dust, thank you so much. You are so sweet. I truly feel beautiful on the inside and outside now. Even though my husband always saw that it's nice for me to finally see it too. Thank you :)

@ Ms.AntiBand, thank you so much. You're doing great too. Keep it up. :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
