I feel like im eatting toooo much

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm a little over 4 weeks, and I'm trying to figure out a few things. Started on soft foods a week ago, today I ate 2/3 of a scrambled egg with cheese and a piece of bacon mixed in. snack was a 100 cal yogurt. lunch was half a scoop of tuna. Snack was the rest of the tuna. dinner was a small chicken tamale (my wonderful neighbor made me some when she heard I could eat soft foods, I know it's not low carb but it was yummy!) snack tonight was a Protein Drink with frozen cherries.

I feel like I'm hungry every couple of hours, and its not head hunger. ( band for almost 6 years I know the difference) I have not had anything make me feel sick, I can drink and eat with no problems, and wait at least 45 min after to drink. I am trying to eat slow but don't need to, though is the slow mainly waiting for your stomach to realize you have had enough? I keep reading of others only eating 2-3 bites and being full, or 300 calories.... What the heck, am I doing it all wrong?

my experience has been very similar to yours...I am at almost 4 weeks (was sleeved May 6), and I am finishing my first week on soft foods...I am feeling true hunger as well, and it takes more than 3 or 4 bites to satisfy me...today for Breakfast I had a scrambled egg, then for lunch I had a couple of thin slices of deli turkey and two little squares of cheese; for an afternoon snack I had a vanilla Protein Shake with half a banana blended in...for dinner tonight I had half a can of ready-to-eat chicken Soup with an evening snack of a chocolate Protein shake...the only thing I've eaten that has made me sick was some watermelon about a week ago

I've only been on soft foods for 3 days, but I feel similar to you on the capacity front (I'm not feeling hungry though)...I don't feel like in eating "too much", and I am not snacking, but am able to get in about 1/2 cup of most things I've tried

I'm almost six weeks out and I'm similar. But honestly, I'm happy I don't have really really small restriction. I had this done to live a normal life but with smaller, healthier portions. And that's what I'm doing. Here's today's menu for example:

Breakfast: fruit smoothie with greek yogurt and soy Protein (300 cals)

Snack: cheesestring

Lunch: 2 oz chicken, 1 piece low sodium bacon, few pieces cucumber, 1T low fat mayo.. All on a small tortilla (I ripped off a lot of the tortilla when I was getting full though). (200 cals)

Snack: 3 hot rods (not the greatest choice but I got myself a treat when I got groceries today!)

Dinner: 2 thai chicken bites (leftover from boston pizza last night, basically 2 small chicken tenders), 30g Brie cheese w/ 5 low fat crackers (300 cals)

Snack: 1/2 Protein square (homemade, basically Peanut Butter and Splenda melted and then stirred into Special K protein Cereal. It's tastes like those puffed wheat squares. Very tasty dessert-like snack!)

My whole day ended up at 1095 cals and 84g of protein.

Usually I hit 1000-1200 and 70-90g protein a day and I'm happy with that. I do feel hunger too. After a couple hours, I get an empty growley feeling in my stomach. Not like the old hunger feeling, but I can recognize it now. Which is why I make sure I have snacks! So far, so good. I'm enjoying the restriction I have right now. Down 23 lbs since April 22.

What is a hot rod?

Actually that's why I chose this surgery also, I was not content to live the rest of my life without (bypass). I want to be able to eat a small piece of birthday cake without dumping, actually eat anything just smaller portions.

When you get to the dense Protein stage you will start feeling your restriction. Just make sure you chew it really well. Always protein first veggies second and if any room left healthy carbs.

I have a similiar issue. I know my NUT told us to stick to 3 meals per day but honestly that's impossible.

I'm usually not real hungry in the morning so I drink a Protein Shake and drink some Water. Around noon my hunger picks up and from then on I'm hungry every 2 hours or so. I have learned to not let myself get too hungry or I eat too fast and I end up sick and in pain.

Today for lunch I made a grilled cheese on Omega 3 whole grain bread. I was able to eat 2 small squares but that was my limit. 2 hours later for snack I ate the other 2 squares. It was nice to have a bit of crunch but it was very soft.

I was sleeved May 7 and next Tuesday I start a regular diet. Currently I stick with shakes and soft foods. I also use baby utensils to remind me to eat small bites. When I have used the regular size utensils I end up sick from eating too much to fast.

Its all a learning curve and I'm still learning for sure....

I was sleeved May 6th and seem to be the same way. All my fellow sleevers said I would get a sign when I am full. So far no sign. I can eat a whole scrambled egg and about 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of food. I get a full feeling but no hiccup, runny nose, etc... I am still eating much less than with the band so I am happy and nothing seems to hurt like with the band.

My experience has been the very same as yours I eat 4 ounces of something every 2 to 2&a half hours and I'm hungry every two two and a half hours so as long as you keep track of your calories and Protein you should be fine.

Last night I had one egg and one lowfat turkey sausage and it was 3.3 oz. It looked like A LOT of food though (maybe because I eat it on a small plate).I could only eat half of the sausage but my husband started harping that it looked like way too much food and to be careful, blah blah blah.

So, not sure if I'm doing something wrong either. I measure every portion and stop as soon as I'm full. I have yet to go over 4 oz and if it's heavier food I often get full at 2-2.5 oz. But his comments make me wonder if I did it wrong.

It sounds like you are doing it exactly right (as long as you are to the stage where you can have more solid Protein like the turkey sausage)

Yeah, I am. I can't have hard food yet or raw vegetables/fruit. So anything I can chew, chew, chew. I didn't have to go pureed, just soft which the turkey sausage is.

What is a hot rod?

It's like a spicy pepperoni stick, but has a bit more fat and sodium than I like!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
