Getting there - slow but sure

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone - I haven't logged on in awhile because I was getting a bit discouraged at how much the weight loss slowed down. I'm right at 5 months out and would say that I have settled into a rut. I upped my daily calories because I was really stuck in a stall for quite a few weeks. I had honestly reached the point where I figured I was done losing weight. I started at 257 and I'm down to 190 today. That's 67 pounds in 5 months and I know I couldn't have lost that on my own.

I'm happy with where I'm at but I'd still like to lose the last 33. I'm giving myself until the end of December 2013 to do that and it's achievable. That's about 5 pounds a month and I can do that!!! The gym is my enemy and I force myself to go at least 4 times a week. Looking for other ways to get cardio and toning in. The gym is boring to me. I recently upped my calories from 800 to 1200 daily and actually lost 3 more pounds (I'm a believer now!).

I can eat most anything - just in much smaller portions. I have started losing my hair but I knew it was coming so I was prepared. It's not coming out in handfuls - I just notice a lot more in the bottom of the shower. It's a small price to pay for how I look today. I was in a size 24 pant and 2XL tops (really more comfortable in a 3XL but my body ignored that logic). I'm now in a size 16 (loose) pant and a large top. I've replaced my wardrobe completely including shoes. I had no idea my feet would shrink too. I've lost LOTS of inches - but don't know how many because I haven't done a comparison lately.

At the end of the day I made a great decision. Insurance would not approve so I paid 100% of all costs myself. It has been worth every cent. I have energy I never had before and I'm a happier person. So if you are on the bubble trying to make a decision - I say go for it. You are worth it.

Congratulations to you 67 lbs is a lot. Hang in there. I haven't been sleeved yet. I am waiting to see my surgeon. I have been reading stories after stories and what I am realizing its that the people who consistly have the drastic losses are doing low carb high Protein diets. This is what I normally do also. I'm not a calorie counting person. Good luck and hang in there you are doing great.

After surgery that will be your basic diet instructions. Low carbs or no carbs and all the Protein you can get.

Congrats. Your under 200 in 5 months. That is my goal lol. The other day I was a little upset and discouraged and a strange thought came to my mind. I would have probably been up 5 lbs instead of down 32lbs if i hadn't gotten sleeved 10 weeks ago. This thought gave me so much motivation. I found a pare of slacks size 16 i'm not sure who the own of this was (whether it was my moms or my old pants) but when i slipped that baby on without any issues I was in a daze.

People at work notice every single day that i am looking much slimmer. I am so happy. I am 6 lbs away from being 227 which is how much i weighed when my bf and i started dating 5 years ago. I remember being comfortable at 227 so I can imagine when i hit 199.

I'm looking at the bright side of this all and i couldn't be more happy. Congrats!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
