Well I have been told yet another time that I took the easy route to lose weight. One of my friends lot 48 pounds while I was in the hospital for 5 months and could not wait to show me how she worked at it herself and did not take the easy route like I did.

The a nurse tells me that I am not responsible for the weight I have lost because the hospital made sure I took the easy route

Yesterday a surgeon said that people who don't have surgery are better off because they earn the weight loss that the work hard for...the easy route is what I did.....

I have had enough of this statement...but do not know how to respond to this comment other then smacking them up side the head....

Any one have any idea !!!!

People are so judgmental. They don't ever stop to think that maybe that person has physical or mental problems. It pisses me off when they tell you to lose weight a specific way, in my head I'm like shut the hell up and let me lose weight the way I need too. I don't see it as the easy way, you still have to work out and watch what you eat and there are just as many struggles. They won't understand that so I just bite my tongue

Omg! I am 3 weeks post op and there has been nothing easy about this. I'm not even loosing weight as fast as others. 11 lbs in 3 weeks...25 total. But I'm loosing. This is the hardest "diet" I have ever been on. I don't tell people I had the surgery for the reasons you listed above. We've all lost 45 lbs before...just didn't keep it off. I've lost count of how many lbs I've lost. Those people are not your friends.

Ask them why they think having someone cut out 80% of your stomach, going liquid diet for 4-6 weeks, soft mushy foods, reflux, lactose intolerance, Constipation and diarrhea, bad breath, low energy, is "the easy way?" What exactly are they doing that is more difficult than all of that???

I never understand this "easy route" business. If you have a choice between doing something the easy way or the hard way, why would you choose the hard way?!?

There is nothing easy about this. I still battle EVERYDAY with old habits. The difference in what you are doing and what they are doing is that when her 45 pounds have been put back on you will still be headed down down down on the scale. This IS NOT easy. Nothing about it is. It is hard work. When people ask me how I'm losing I say hard work and I've cut way back on what I'm eating, I drink more Water, no more sodas and I haven't had bread or sugar since March 11. That is my answer. Some people I do tell that I have had surgery but others I don't. I could not be having the success I am having on my own, I've proven that over and over again BUT it is taking LOTS of work on my part to make it work.

Before I had surgery I spent time waiting on people's approval, especially the ones that are close to me. Some of them never even called me after surgery to see if I even made it through. With that said I don't get concern any more about what people think.

I'm Happy with my decision and that's all that matter. The further you get out the more you will realize that you had to make an Executive Decision for your own Health and it all about a better you.

* fewer than 5% of people who lose weight thru lifestyle alone keep it off

* you make healthful choices every day about what you choose to eat--Protein, veggies, etc. You could eat junk like chips, sweets, and sugar-laden drinks and not lose or gain, but you choose not to do it.

* it's your butt out there working out, not the surgeon's, hospital's, or anyone else's.

Some people aren't worth educating, but I think it's inexcusable that a healthcare professional would say things like this to you.

Another thing I feel like saying is....why do I have to be a martyr? I've tried and failed so many times doing it the "hard way". Have I not earned the right to succeed? Why can it only be considered a success if it's done the "hard way"?

I think it all boils down to people not understanding obesity as a disease. Thinking we're just lazy people who need to buckle down and pull ourselves up by the bootstraps. What they don't understand is the mental aspect that cannot be overcome quite so easily...the physical part is easy.

Note to Surgeon: So people are better off not having the surgery even though it's statistically proven that Morbidly obese people have an exponentially greater success with WLS than without it? If what you say is true, then why do MORE ,more morbidly obese people regain weight after losing it "the natural way" than those who lose with the assistance of WLS?

to your friend: Congratulations! Losing 45 pounds is a great accomplishment! Now that you've also committed to a healthier lifestyle, we can go workout together once I'm well!

For everyone else: I don't want or need your approval. I decided to take control of my life. This is not a game or a contest.. there is no easy way or hard way.. there is no "cheating"... It's NOT A FREAKING GAME.. this is a battle, it's a war... there is success and failure.. I am taking this extra step to ensure that I'm a success and I win this battle of my life. If my choice upsets your delicate sensibilities, then go cry to someone who cares.

Y'all are so polite. I'd just tell them to F themselves (pardon my French!) We are with you, RJ. You don't need their approval, you just need your own approval. Good for you for doing this, and good girl for posting here so we can give you support. I kinda like the smacking upside the head part....

Look them straight in the eye with a straight face and say, " I am sorry you feel resentment towards me and that jealousy is not a way to treat a friend" Oh and for the non friends, " kiss my new rosey a**"... Then smack the ignorant idiots upside the head. B) For the health care professionals, seriously A** Hat's "I don't pay you for your personal opinions", so do your job. Ya! I'm not bitter  I used most of this, and figured out who my true friends were through this process...(Jumps down off my soap box)

Here's what I would tell them:

I'm sorry you feel that way. My surgeon and I decided this was the best option for me.

And I would consider reporting them. This is unacceptable in the medical industry.

Could be that those surgeons don't like WLS because that's fewer patients for them in the future. The people who would have developed heart, kidney, or liver conditions won't if they lose weight. Many doctors are resentful of weightloss surgeons.

highest weight = 228 DOS = 219 CW = 201 DOS was May 7th 2013

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
