The day has come and panic attacks....

Recommended Posts

I was totally fine...even yesterday! Now that the day I've been waiting for (8 months) is here I'm having panic attacks. Talk me through it!

You will be fine. Get up and walk walk walk even if you don't feel like it. When you are done walking, walk some more. Get the gas moving and out of your body as quickly as possible so you will feel less pain tomorrow. Walk, walk, walk. Then walk. Don't be afraid to ask for pain meds if you need them. Don't be surprised when you can't drink anything today but start on those ice chips as soon as they will let you. And then? WALK!!

You are in my thoughts today!

The anticipation is so much worse than the actual pain. You will likely have one or two rough days due to the gas but the pain meds will.get you through it so you don't even have to be all that aware of it. After that you start feeling better fast and it is so worth it! Best of luck to you!

No op is a picnic but almost all are easier than childbirth!

Are you frightened of the op or unsure of your decision? I am always anxious re ops but sailed through this one with few problems. Bit of pain on first night and twinges and aches to follow, but nothing major for most of us. Felt better every day and a month later I can hardly believe I had it done.

If you're nervous about how you'll cope after, most drs seem to let patients have a day or 2 extra if you ask - it's good to go home confident. Don't rush yourself.

I feel good and have progressed to casseroles and the like now. I thought it was 'mental' to have a perfectly healthy stomach removed... But now it feels quite natural. I can eat what I need to, and expanding choices are great! What I needed that whacking to great fundus for I don't know.

My surgery was 2 weeks ago. I got out of bed in preop and told them to take out the IV, I had changed my mind. My Dr had to come talk me down. He let me stay 3 days and I was more than ready to go home. Almost no pain! You will be fine!

I agree with Sidney Susan, it is much easier than childbirth.

Today is the annual Talking Out Of Second Hand Experience day.

Pray, relax, enjoy the meds, look forward to jumping higher and running faster.

Thank you guys! I really appreciate all your support! I'm trying to stay busy until I go in at 2. I think I'm worried about the feeling of the first eating and drinking. And the what ifs. I will post afterwards! THANKS AGAIN!

Good luck! Will keep you in my thoughts.

Pre op is the scariest. No regrets here except that wish I had done it earlier!

You work your way up very slowly with eating, and it's not been an issue for me. At the start of W5 I've only just gone on 'soft foods' (had chicken casserole with the family tonight, woo hoo!), and no issue at all. Even a week ago 'lumps' were not too good, but I would puree then and ate heaps of fantastic Soups (with a tablespoon of Protein powder and another of Benefiber in each). You only need to try new foods when you feel ready for them...

Good luck

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
