1 month post -op and gaining

Recommended Posts

2 weeks out i had my first doctors apt. I told him my appetite had returned and i could tell i could hold more than before. He still insists there

is nothing abnormal about that and told me to eat regurlar foods, veg, meats, etc. He said did not matter if i lost another lb before the fill. He even said he did not care if i gained 5lbs because after first fill i would loose anyway. So why am I so different than any of the others i read about. eating mushies even after a month from surgery.

I haven't had surgery yet, but everything I've read, been told, etc. It is very common to gain weight while waiting for the first fill. The first 6 weeks are about healing so after your first fill, the process of losing will start.

Hang in there, this time next year, I'm sure you will be celebrating your Band Anniversary and telling about how much you have lost. And you will be reassuring others who are just 1 month post op about your experience.

Just try and eat healthy until your fill. I am planning on staying off the scales until my first fill so as not to get discouraged.

Congrats on being banded and 1 month out!!!

I didn't loose much weight at all before my first fill...but my dr also told me it was normal...just to allow my body to heal. so there is nothing wrong...dont fret. We all understand those first few weeks can be very fustrating.

SOME people may lose weight during this time, but I wasn't one! And, it did not adversely affect my progress. I definately agree with your doctor...eating is extremely important. My doctor always preaches how important it is to not "diet" during these times...stick with your plan and let your body take the lead. I know it's hard, but stay the course!

You're not abnormal! Very normal, in fact. :) I don't know if I gained weight before my first fill or not because I simply didn't weigh. I knew that the time before the first fill was for healing, and that if I needed to stick to the food guidelines first and foremost. Weight loss (or gain) was secondary to my sticking to liquids, then mushies, etc.

Hang in there! It will be different after you start getting fills.

Yikes, I don't know where to start!

I am just in the thinking stage of having this surgery.

I am 53 years old and so far I have no co morbidities, but I am barely 5ft tall and 255 lbs. My gp actually mentioned to me if I had considered lap banding, she doesn't like the idea of the big gastric bypass.

so now I'm thinking about it but I'm scared to death. I have no medical problems, no diabetes, my bp is good so are my lipid profiles but it's getting so uncomfortable to be me. I have two grandkids to run after, a full time job and a big house and garden and I can't keep up anymore with all of it.

I really just want my energy back.

ANyone else in the same or similar boat?

How about heartburn, I seem to suffer that quite a lot.

Thanks.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
