I got my date but they have changed it 3 times in a 5 hour span. I went from Aug 23' date=' a date that my surgeon does not do surgery. Then to the 22nd but they took so long that I lost the date, so now it is official the date is the 29th of Aug. I am now waiting to receive my email on the next steps I need to take. I am feeling a little nervous because the date means its really going to happen and I am thinking about the after affects. What is going to work and what I need to do and eat? I know it will all come to me when the time comes but it does not stop me from thinking about the "what if's".[/quote']

Awwwww snapssss! Congratz on ur date!!! Of course ur mind is going to wonder its unknown territory.. Ull do fine!

I believe that everyone has some doubts and fears when it comes to surgeries and there complications. I had a major surgery when I was a child, the WLS can't compare... So I'm not scared of the surgery itself, but the eating healthy part is going to be challenging. Yes, I made the decision to change my life and how I do things... but habits do not disappear over night! So my fear is that I won't be able to stick it out til the end. :( :( But I'm keeping the faith, it'll all work out! I HOPE

I fear surgery but its not as big as the fear of not being able to keep up my part of this journey. So, I completely understand what you are saying about making changes and doing the work. But I do know I did not come this far to turn back or fail so I think we all will be fine.

Newbie here' date=' I'm Tracey westside of Chicago. I've been thinking about WLS since 2005. I haven't had a chance to start the process because of lifes ups and downs, but I'm ready to finally start the process. I've been morbidly obese my entire life... now that I'm older I'm ready to finally make a change. i'm currently under the BCBSIL ***... thur my employer and far as I know, I'll have to have a referral from my PCP on 9/10/2013... I also know that the surgery will be covered at 100% and all testing and specialist visit are covered with a referral with 10 co-pay...of course lol. Like I said before, I'm new to the process, so I'm hoping that things will go smoothly... considering that my first visit with my PCP, will be to get a referral to see the surgeon on 9/9/2013.

Does anyone else have BCBSIL ***? How long did it take for you to get approved?

Also, I want to say congrats to you guys for making the decision to change your life... to get healthy... and living a better life![/quote']

Hello Tracey ...

Congrats to you as well. Have you attended a seminar yet? For some people it can take up to 6 months for the whole process... It depends on what your insurance and their prerequisites... I'm also on the west side... Austin area...

Thanks TV-Duhhh!!!. I am having my surgery at Little Company of Mary Hospital. Any other LCMers out there?

I have Fibromyalgia and am worried about an increase in my pain level. My team has been great, they've had experience with others with Fibro.

Thank you, I'm 5 mins away from the Austin area. I did the seminar/webinar with the surgeon and was contact twos later to schedule the consult. I'm in the beginning stages, but my insurance is saying they have no requirements, just get the referral and it'll be paid... its up to PCP or medical group. All they told me was that the surgery would be covered at 100% and all other visits and follow-ups would be $10 with referrals. I go for my doctors appointment in the 10th of August to get a referral to see the surgeon in Sep. I've also been talking to a few pre-op nurses that work with me at UCMC, that I made the right decision on the type of surgery to have... considering that I also have PCOS.

So I'm ready to get this done and over with so I can get this weight over once and for all.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
