My doctor's office has Quinoa on my shopping list starting week 6 post surgery. I'm still pre-op so I can't speak from actual experience, though.

Depending where you are post op. if you are on normal foods, then sure, it's a great source of Protein, not to mention it's a complete protein! I eat it and i'm 2 months out. It's never given me any issues.

It is a seed, so best check with the NUT if seeds are not on your list.

What is everyone's favorite way to eat it? I've tried a few recipes but they were just "meh" for me.

If you are a fan of Quinoa (I am) I highly recommend checking out Feed Adam. It's a a project that focuses on teaching women in empoverished areas to farm small portions of land. The organization purchaces the premium product these ladies produce at a premium price allowing them to provide for their families and retain their dignity.

How does this relate to this thread? The product they are working with is Quinoa. Not only can you feel good for helping an organization like this, it's also the cheapest place I've found to get Quinoa.

Pre surgery my FAVORITE quinoa salad recipe:

(I hope I can eat it again someday soon....)

Makes a big salad:

-1 1/2 cups to 2 cups dry quinoa ( Cook and cool in refrigerator)

-1/2 can black Beans (or 1/2 cup cooked black beans)

-1/2 purple onion, chopped

-1/4 cup Sundried tomatoes

-1/4 cup chopped feta

-corn (optional. I never add)

Add 1/4 cup (ish) Kraft Greek Salad Dressing (low cal is better of course)

Let it marinate and enjoy!!

OR, I use it as an alternative to rice. Great with curry dishes, or greek dishes (add greek yogurt or tzasiki (spelling)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
