To make sure the enviornment stays sterile. rembember they flip you around alot... on a bed. off a bed. If they get it on themselves..then in you by accident it could cause an infection.

You will be knocked out! Who cares if you have makeup on.. they have seen it all the good the bad and the ugly...

You dont need one more thing to do that morning. Consider it a break for a day :welldone2:

They also need to be able to accurately tell if your pale, jaundiced, ect and with makeup on thats difficult to do, it also makes it difficult for the tape to stick to your face from the breathing tube. They tape your eyes shut once the intubate you and who wants mascara sticking to plastic tape??

one word- bacteria.

And you can't wear nail polish because they put the oxygen monitor on your fingertip.

Hehe, I"m not a big make up wearer, I always feel like I look like a clown. Natural is my thing. but I had a spray tan the day before surgery (I cant believe I just admitted I am that vain).

I had my toenails painted but my nails were French manicure. That wasnt an issue. The no jewelry was an absolute must. I had to remove toe rings even. All my rings, even wedding ring, came off easily except for my thumb band. I asked if I could just leave it on and they brought me some K-Y lube and made me take it off, lol.

They said I could leave all my polish on except for one finger and one toe---that they needed to be able to see the natural color of the nail bed, to watch for circulation issues. Well I thought that would look silly---so I took it all off. No make-up, hair spray, deodorant, they ask us to shower, and make sure our hair was dry, but to use no products. And yes ALL jewelry had to be off, my SIL tried to get to keep her upper earrings---nope, like lianna's thumb band, they too had to go!!! No contacts, no dentures, or removable partials--although they said you could keep them until they took you off to surgery.

In the end it was not an issue!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
