Hello Everyone,

Recommended Posts

I'm now in the process of being scheduled for surgery, but I'm feeling a little unsure now. I have been overweight since a little child and I'm not sure if I can really break old habits. I've stick to diets before, but always gained the weight back after a few months. My surgery date will be sometime in January and I'm excited but like I said a little unsure. Is this common? Did anyone else feel as if they could'nt last with the band? Well I keep ya'll posted on my surgery date. Thanks for any support! Mitzi:clap2: (happy) but:phanvan (unsure)

Welcome Mitzi

I didnt know how I was going to go with all the lifestyle/habit changes also but I took the plunge and did it...sure now and then I slip up and revert to old habits but the lapband forces me to be realistic about my everyday choices...food, exercise, activties etc. 1 year down the track and i wouldn't have it any other way...it is completely normal to wonder if you are going to be able to keep with the rules and such but you really wont know till you try...and If this is important to you, and you want it so much, and it seems to me that you do! Then you will be fine and I am sure you will surprise yourself... I cant wait to hear of your success story to!

Mitzi, I was really hard on myself. I prayer about it for a while that I needed a drastic change. My eating habits were okay at best. I ate poorly, fast foods, etc. I have been overweight my entire life. Just know that this is a tool. You can definitely stuff your new pouch with bad foods. Just be aware that its Protein first at all times then the vegies. They have some great sugar free/fat free Jello pudding that I would recommend if you like chocolate. Use the band as a tool. I'm down 34 lbs since June and my doctor is thrilled. Good luck.

Hi Mitzi, Remember with the band u can only eat so much. My problem is with portion size, I will eat until i felt full which was in a restaurant = bread, salad, entree, dessert......huge stomach i guess. But with the band (i'm 5 weeks post op) went to eat 5 days ago and ate too much. I had the worst cramps it taught me not to do that again. I'm getting my first fill this friday then the restrictions really go into effect. eat too much and it comes up.......how appetizing is that?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
