I'm curious about something.

Does it matter how other ppl feel about your WLS decision/journey?

AHA!!! ;)

My 81 year old, eccentric but lovable brother-in-law announces loudly to everyone, anywhere, anytime that my stomach is like a banana and my RNY wife's stomach is like a shot glass and we did it to ourselves.

They normally just look at me like I'm a specimen from the Ripley's Museum.

It's a good thing that I don't give a rat's backside what people think about it.

In a sense it doesn't matter what they think because either way I'm going to do it. But I do have to see these people 40+ hours a week and the negative comments would bother me. I really don't want to come to work and feel the negativity bring me down. I won't lie about it. I just don't have to tell them.

I was just having this convo with my husband. I really don't feel like explaining to everyone who asks me how I lost all the weight (down the road) all my personal business. I can't stand lying either. However, I have been very honest with my family and trusted friends, but random people don't need to know.

3 1/2 yrs ago I was banded. I told everybody, including my mailman! This time (awaiting sleeve revision due to a slip), I made the mistake of telling my family and best friend. They all think that wls is too severe for having 30 lbs to lose and that I should do it on my own. I tried that for 40 yrs, didn't work for me.I do think that GB is too severe for 30 lbs and they don't see a difference. To non-wls'ers, wls is all gastric bypass or "stomach stapling".

I wish I had just kept it a secret. A few friends also know, but it's hard to describe what you're doing. Good luck!

I only told a few select people. I suddenly found myself in a dilemma a couple of days when some moms at the school got curious because I couldn't drive. I don't need the additional stress from gossips or even well meaning people. I had not considered the possibility that someone would actually ask questions so quickly.

So - I lied. I know in a year or do I will come clean. Just wasn't ready so quickly.

However i don't intend to not tell ppl I've had wls once im losing and they ask im not ashamed i just don't need the negativity right now ppl will go as far as offering u bad food cakes and cheese steaks and think they are being funny so i choose to keep it quiet until im sleeve then IM COMING OUT I WANT THE WORLD TO KNOW GOT TO.LET IT SHOW LOL

I told one. This one is going to the grave with me. People can be mean, intentionally & unintentionally.

My advice is to tell no one...once you tell someone...it's out there, you can't take it back...

Best of luck to you. Do what you feel is best for you & your life.

I was so ready to tell no one at all and to keep it to myself. And then when people started asking me why I was getting smaller, instead of saying I've been smoking crack like I originally planned. I started telling them about the surgery it would just come out like word vomit lol so now most people know.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
