Satisfied with losing slower?

Recommended Posts

So I have dropped 101 lbs with both pre- and post-op losses. I am feeling much better, obviously, and am looking more "normal" sized. The only time I am upset at how I look is when I try on clothes. The sizes are smaller (16/18) or L or XL, but God, my tummy...lets hope if it's the last to go it does GO. Ugh. Definitely my problem area. But I digress. I think I have done pretty well since surgery (71 lbs in less than 5 months), and have never had much of a problem with any one food. My sleeve accepts pretty much everything happily. I think I might be OK with losing slower at this point, like even if its 5 lbs a month or so. What that means for me is, well, continuing what I have been doing, i.e., eating about 1200 calories with healthy carbs thrown in. I will continue to avoid most Pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, and added sugars, with some indulgence in these "forbidden" foods very occasionally (I graduated on May 10 and had a small piece of cake two days last week- still lost a decent amount & reached 100 lbs lost). My diet really varies from day to day, depending on things like leftovers, etc. Sometimes I eat Cereal in the morning, sometimes scrambled eggs. I weigh and measure everything and track it on MFP. I go to the gym and Zumba as often as I can- usually 3-5 days a week. I guess what I am trying to say is that I want to eat like a normal person while making good decisions food-wise. I am hopeful that this way of living will help me make this change lifelong. If it means losing a little slower, so be it. I am happy.

My belly is the last to go and is still packing it's bags. I have shoulders that ripple like a Thoroughbred's hind quarters but a mushy, squishy abdomen, at least on the outside. It is getting hard to tell if what is left has much fat in it or is mostly skin.

I feel like I am eating normally.

I have a new normal that has thrown the old normal off a bridge. Good riddance ya rotten pig!:D

absolutely the right approach. You've done well and it is something that you just have to work at. You'll get to goal. Some us are slow losers no matter what we do. If we stay on track we will get there. Good job!

I do get a little discouraged at losing slow but I know if I followed the rules better I would lose quicker. I had my 6month check-up today. I have lost 68 pounds since surgery. Doc St Jean says I can expect to lose half of that in the next 6months. That is if I continue as I am doing now. I will have to do better about exercising and diet to exceed this goal. He says I am right on track, But I know I can do better. Slow is ok. I carry most of my weight in my tummy area and is a challenge.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
