A friend of mine had By-pass surgery and she was told that she wasn't able to consume wild game anymore. Does anyone know if the same thing applies to VSG surgery?

Geez, I hope not, every male in my family is a hunter! (My dad was turkey hunting yesterday.) Christmas wouldn't be the same without smoked goose!

I have NEVER heard of this. I did hear that Jerky will be harder to digest and may cause Constipation. I also heard not to eat nuts, seeds or coconuts.

My surgeon told me at first when you first get on regular foods no wild game because it will make you sick an its harder to digest.

Just looked at a post-op booklet online, and they say you can add wild game at the same stage as red meat like steak (for my program, that's at 4 months).

I think the reason they add wild game so late is because it can be very tough/stringy or dry, since there is usually little fat in non-pen-raised animals.

I would say to cook it in a method that keeps the meat the most moist, and chew like crazy!

Anyone with experience in preparing meat via sous vide?

I'm pretty sure it's only early on that they advise against wild game. It's a little tougher than farm raised meat. They say not to eat nuts and seeds early on because they can get caught in the staple line if you consume them before the scar tissue has formed. For the record I've eaten wild game, nuts, and seeds without issue.

I'm 5 months out and can eat anything. I've tried Jerky and my stomach didn't even grumble, but I did thoroughly chew it before swallowing. When I try a new food, I take a very small bite (1/2 teaspoon size) and wait 5 minutes. If after 5 minutes and my stomach is okay, I have had no problems eating more.

And I saw it but didn't buy it today - Oberto's BACON JERKY at Wal-mart! Nom nom nom! Can life get any better? :-)

I have had wild boar and bison without any concern, after month 6. It is tasty and healthier than beef! Also can eat any Jerky without GI issue, but hate that it gets stuck in my teeth.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
