More on Gov. Christie...

Recommended Posts

Lots and lots of public figures have had some type of bariatric surgery, why is everyone so concerned with him?? I don't get it. Is it just because he's the most recent one to talk about it?

"It has the lowest EARLY complication rate”

That is the only thing they can say. It's the ONLY thing that makes it seem ok compared to the sleeve. Early complications are rare.. But what about after that? This is such a misleading thing to say. ARRGGGH!

LMAO! I knew Ms. AntiBand would have something to say about this!!!

I do like that the MD they spoke to said they wouldn't have recommended the band. I'm really surprised that he chose the band, I mean, if I can easily get info on the different surgeries myself, then I'm sure he had the best doctors advising him of the same. My surgeon said the same thing: "I take out more bands than I put in". For someone who's supposed to be such a smart guy, this seems like a misstep. Good on him for recognizing he had to deal with his weight problem, but really - I think he made the wrong choice!

funny... Im having surgery through the same office as him... however different doctor.. and they dont necessarily push for the band either... I even beleive i remember them saying that they are moving away from the band... I actually think this was Gov. Christie who pushed so hard to do it this way... because maybe at the time he didnt want anyone to know... The worst part is this... there was a line that said "he continues to work out with his personal trainer 4 days a week as he had done for years before the surgery" why is that guy still employed... LOL

This is news because Christie has been known to have a bully attitude and an opinion on everything, but this. He could, as he has done on other topics helped others on their journey to be healthier, but ultimately it is his choice.

Ummm...I worked out with a trainer for 3 years before I had my surgery. I worked out on my own even before that. Having a trainer does not make a person lose weight. With my trainer the most I would lose was 30 pounds and I always gained it back then lost it again. I was great at working out but had so many emotional issues with the weight and that wasn't something my trainer could fix. I tried everything and for me surgery was the last resort. I couldn't be happier with my results and I am still working out with my trainer.

As for the governor having the lap band, I wish him luck and say good for him deciding to have the surgery and deciding to change his life for the better. It is not the surgery I would have chosen for myself but it is a personal decision and only he can make it for himself. I don't knock anyone who decides to have any of the different gastric surgeries. Now, if they ask my opinion I will share it but other than that it's their own decision. The good news is that if the band doesn't work for him he will be able to have the sleeve.

I knew a little about the sleeve when I got my band, but it just seemed so much more drastic. My sorry excuse for a Cordinator at the time was a revision patient and I should have known better just from that alone. If she ditched her band why should I get it.. Well, duh!

I think Christie wants something that's not permanent.. It's a scary thought to go permanent.

So I heard something on the news yesterday that the dr actually did the surgery at Christie's home?!?!? Did anyone else hear them say that? Or do I still have anesthesia in my body?

I believe it was done at a surgi center. Not sure if the surgi center was in NY or NJ.

Maybe the surgery was done in his "home town" NOT his home.

I know when I got my band I too thought that it was less invasive and at the time only bypass was available and thought that this was too drastic. I thought that I could do it with the band........

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
