Lower BMI Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Hey Audree, Glad to see you! I was just wondering today when you would be back.

I am getting a fill Wed. and I am so excited. I really think this one will help because I am so close to perfect restriction.

It stinks that we are all so open in the evenings because that's the time when the head hunger and wanting to snack feelings are so hard to control. I have no problems until around 8 pm when I start having the cravings.

Audree, is your hair falling out? I am so tired of it and want it to stop NOW!

I eat tons of Protein and take all kind of Vitamins. I guess it will stop when it

wants to. I have done everything anyone suggested to get it to stop and so far, it's still falling out like crazy.

Hi everyone!

I was banded on Wed., 8/29. My bmi on that day was about 35. I was only on the preop diet for a few days because I finally got approved and wanted to have surgery before school starts on the 4th. So far so good. I LOVE that even though I am head hungry I just can not eat because I get so full fo fast!

Question - did any of you lose a lot of weight right off the bat? Since starting the preop diet which was only 9 days ago, I've lost TWELVE pounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can that be possible? Do you think I'll gain back before my first fill? Just wondering because when there is less to lose overall I know you usually lose more slowly.

I am tired and bored. Thank goodness this site keeps me occupied - especially since I lost my hobby of eating! I stayed overnight becuase the hospital is 3+ hours away. I am SOOOOOOOOOO happy!

I lost the majority of my weight in the beginning. I then had no restricition till my 3rd fill.

My hair never did fall out. I think because I have lost on the slower side of things. I do take some liquid vitamins, but don't take a specific supplement to help. Eventually it will stop. I also heard if you fat intake is too low your hair will fall out. Healthy fat, like olive oil, nuts, etc.

I am at 2.5 right now. I want to go to around to 2.8 . I don't think I could handle 3.0. I don't want anymore food getting stuck than I already am.

I am just starting to notice that I can eat a bigger portion. They say when you have lost fat around the stomach, the band loosens. I think that's what happened. I had very good restriction until recently.

You're so lucky you haven't had your hair fall out. I have lost very slowly too. I do eat nuts almost every day. I think it's just a shock to the body to have surgery. My hair fell out when my husband died too. I still wish it would stop. It's extremely annoying.

Thanks!!! I think a few more cc's would do the trick. But I am going to try to exercise first. I am afraid to get another fill in a way since I get stuck morning and noon and even sometimes in the evening. I get stuck before and during my period so about 2 weeks out of the month. The other 2 weeks I am looser. I did "choke" down my Breakfast of ground meat and veggies today. I can feel every bite being choked down. I also ate about 1 cup of it. When I am done eating, I slime a little bit too.

I am at 3 cc's in a 4 cc band right now.

My 1st goal is 155. I was happy there before. Then my 2nd goal is 145. From there I may just let me skin catch up and tone up. If I lose a few pounds more, I won't complain, but I ultimatley want to be between 140ish.

Thanks for hearing me talk to myself!!!:bounce:

N/P I love to hear it...LOL

This fill is kicking my butt. I am really tight in the am and cannot eat anything so put Protein in my cup of coffee and drink a Protein Shake. I've lost 6 lbs really fast but i'm hoping it loosens up a little as I lose some stomach fat. I'm just so happy to finally see the scale moving the thought of getting a slight unfill is Not acceptable.

Denise,

As you know I've lost VERY slowly too and i'm losing my hair. It's not coming out in clumps but more like "groupings" of 10-12 strands...you can see the lightness at the top of my head, but fortunately I have pretty thick hair so it isn't obvious to anyone but me-i've had 5 other surgeries in my life and never has this happened to me, so it has to do with the weight loss (even though it has been light and slow) .. so I can sympathize with you...i'm sorry to hear about your husband too.

Hi Lower BMI Bandsters!

I'm researching LapBanding, and everytime I get to the point where I feel like I'm committed to getting the surgery done, something happens to make me second guess my choice. My BMI wasn't as high as I thought it was, I got distracted with other medical issues, I tried losing by myself again, and finally my most recent setback.

I thought I'd found my surgeon only to find out that he wouldn't do low BMI's because he believed that the risk of slipping was too great in low BMI patients. Has anyone else heard of this? It seems strange to me, seeing as how the whole point to getting LapBand done is to have a lower BMI, and if low BMI patients are so prone to slips wouldnt that mean that almost ALL bandsters would exprience slips once they lost weight?

Low BMI'ers, please fill me with your wisdom!

Dear Pam: This is great news!! Good for you! You sound like you are doing great! How are you feeling? I know I will be bored as well as my numero uno hobby is eating as well! Have you taken up any new other hobbies yet? Have you gotten your energy back? I am a low BMI like you and wondering if recover is easier for the lower ones like us? That would be nice.

way to go PAM:bounce::bounce:--:bounce::bounce:-(green with envy)

Fox this does seem strange and you made a good point about everyone getting to the point where they will have slippage if this does work and his theory is right. Just get a second opinion.. ..the only thing I can think of is that they don't make a lap band as small as you will need to have restriction?? I doubt it....I don't know....hopefully a wise one will tell us!

My fill is tighter right now due to premenstrual bloating. I PB'd for the 2nd time in my banded life today. It was yucky!!! I felt kinda sick the rest of the day. I stuck to mushies too. I hope my weight is starting to come off since I am at 3 cc's in a 4cc band. I know I have to start exercising now.

I don't think another fill would be good for me right now.

Low BMI'ers, please fill me with your wisdom!

I was banded by dr. Ariel Ortiz who is one of the pioneers in the world. Lapband was done in other countries before it was accepted here in the US. Dr. Ortiz has trained a lot of doctors on how to do the lapband in the US and has written a book on the subject "Lapband for Life". He is considered and expert and has done over 8,000 lapbands (4,000 under the doctor who trained him, and over 4,000 on his own with the doctor he is training).

No where in his book does he say such a thing. He will do a bmi of 30 with no comorbidies. It is actually easier on a lower bmi to do the surgury.

I am not sure why your doctor is saying such things. How many bands has he done???

I am so glad you are questioning and looking for answers instead of just taking what he says.

Let us know how it goes!!!!;)

I got a fill yesterday and I can't even tell. I actually feel like

I have less restriction than more. I am really disappointed.

Some people say it takes awhile to kick in. That has never

been my experience. Usually, the day after, I hardly feel like

eating. Today I felt like I was starving all day. I hope this

changes. I am out of free fills.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
