Lower BMI Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Hey! I am new to this thread although I am not new to Lapband Talk. I was banded in October 2006. Most of the weight Ive lost was in the liquad/mushie stage. I have been extremely good the past three days and have managed to pull off 6 lbs. I couldnt have done it without appetite suppressants. I am not proud of that but I think I needed a jumpstart. I dont plan on taking them very long.

My lapband journey has defenetely been a roller coaster. I lost, and then gained, gained, gained. All of which was my fault. I ate everything but the furniture. Especially SUGAR!!!!! I went through a lot in the past two years so Im sure depression and anxiety has played a huge role in my failures, but I am thankful for the last three days. I feel like I am finally getting some clarity back.

I have been having 2 eggs for Breakfast, baked chicken 3/4 cup for lunch, and some sort of meat 3/4 cup for supper with a 1/2 green Beans. Also have gotten my 8 glasses of Water or crystal light in each day. So far this is working for me. I go Monday to my doc, and if I havent lost 4 lbs from the last visit which was a month ago, hes going to do a fill. I guess I really need that. But when I was in there a month ago I didnt want a fill, I think I was afraid I couldnt eat or something. Crazy...but my life!!! ha ha ha

I am around 31 BMI, its good to see everyone going thru what I am. I want to be around 140. I guess because I remember that number from YEARS ago, and I remember feeling good about myself then. If I go lower thats great but Im not gonna push myself. The doc says I can go down to 110 for my height but I dont think I want to be that skinny. We'll see!!!

Welcome!!!

Sounds like you are doing really good! You are eating a lot like me. I try to stick more to a South Beach Diet most of the time at least. I also get my fluids in by Crystal Light and water. I had hit a 3 month plateau. I just went for fill #3. They put me to 3 cc's. I am very happy here and happy to see some pounds come off. I had gained a little but have lost it!

I was 169 two weeks ago and today weighed 164.

I am having the first bite syndrome, for at least 6 bites. I am super tight, maybe due to being premenstrual?

But, at least I know my band is there now.

My goal is also the 140 ish range, 145 I was thinking.

Today I have had 2 Protein Shakes. I had a little bowl of garbanzos and cheese at 4pm. I had to chew real well to not get stuck and wait before the next bite. I did get stuck a little.

I am also working at getting my 70 ounces of liquid in.

I also took my liquid Vitamin.< /p>

I am feeling weak, tired, but I feel like that often before my period.

How are you all doing?

Audree, I have lost about 45 lbs. I seem to go on plateaus too, and then all of a sudden I will drop a few, without doing anything different.

I am going to wait to get another fill until after I go to Arizona to see my dad.

I don't want to be stuck around him. He doesn't know I have the band. Right now I am doing pretty well, not getting stuck as often. I have learned over the last 7 months to really chew well and take the tiny bites. It took me a long time to get that right. I hate being stuck more than anything.

Great thread and I've been checking alot. I was banded 07/06/07 and I'm down 12 lbs since - started right at a BMI of 34 or so. I was a self-pay in Houston and used Dr. Spiegel. Sixty pounds to go!

I had only 6 days between consult and surgery, and with my BMI there was no pre-op diet; this Friday I have a green light to eat regular foods if I can. I think I have a fair bit of restriction now and the hunger has been surprisingly not *too* bad. I've been tracking my food (mushies) on thedailyplate.com and I've been averaging about 800 cal the last week.

Today: no breakfast (not hungry in the am?); cup potato Soup at a biz lunch; Protein shake; sweet/sour soup at dinner (liquid only) plus five bites of a coconut tofu curry. Hard to account but worst case that's 1000 cal which is amazing given I had two meals at restaurants.

My big challenge now is a PLATEAU - tommorow will be 7 whole days without any real weight loss! ICK. I'm happy I manage OK on 800 cals a day, but jeez I thought my weight would move. Maybe after the 8 lbs week after surgery, and 4 lbs last week, my body dived down its burn rate.

I'm not exercising hard yet - or really at all - but maybe I need to eat at 800 cal a say AND do serious cardio. My energy level is not that great, and maybe if I get in my protein that will help?? Having a heck of a time with protein.

Thanks for listening ...

MM:)

Hey white - we have the same goal! I was 145 lb at my wedding 13 years ago and my doc thinks 140 is a good goal weight. I would be happy to reach 150 lb, or maybe just get out of the 200s before my first fill (I am soooo close).

What appetite supressants do you use? Were they easy to get prescribed?

Audree - great job on the weight loss!!! A wonderful role model for me. Your food diaries are so useful to me since I am trying to figure out how much to plan on eating.

Mirandasmom- If you do not mind how much did Spiegel charge? I am waiting for passport application to go to mexico, but if I could fly to houston that would be great. I too am self pay.

About your plateau....once you start to excercise you should start to loose, weight training is sooo important for you metabolism which is slowed down do to the very low cal intake. Get a trainer and try lifting weights 4 x while doing cardio 5-6 x a week. Ironically I am a Dietician and trainer here at my local YMCA, I am so excited about this surgery but just want to get it NOW :nervous Good Luck

I think the total was about $14,500 - check to him, check to really nice, wonderful hospital, and some miscellaneous charges. They pay hotel for out of town guests I think. Great surgeon, and an ego to boot. PM me for more details!

Congrats, srsalas! That's great that you are on your way to bandland. 8 kids! That's awesome. I actually have 10 of my own--all boys but 9. Now I have four grandsons with the fifth coming (hopefully) tonight. Children are wonderful and grandchildren are beyond wonderful--no words to describe that.

Pins and needles are certainly normal, that's for sure. Good luck with your tests next week. Let us know when you get your ticket to bandland. Good luck!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
