Lower BMI Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Hello....

After 3 weeks of surgery I am heading back to Dallas for a follow up with the doctor. He did not tell me if I am getting a fill ( probably still too early). I have not lost an ounce this week. I probably need to eat less and exercise more.

Audree.... I can't write you messages, it says your mail box is full.

i was reading back about the fills....you know i got too tight for awhile and being stuck with every meal made my esophagus swell a bit....NOT FUN. so i think if you are losing, let it be. if you are not losing, but have restriction-well then you need to evaluate what you eat. i too have a 28 day calorie cycle~so my non medical mind assumes there is a connection.

anyway, does anyone have any good suggestions for lunches. i prefer to eat at work, but i am bored with my usuals. suggestions?

Audree,

I am here, just been really busy so it is hard to post. I've been lucky to keep up on my reading.

Miss Bandster:

I usually eat the same things for lunch everyday. A Soup at hand and a cottage double. I keep thinking I will change and eat something else, but I have only about 20 minutes for lunch by the time I get the kids out of the room and get to the teacher's lounge. That isn't enough time for me to eat anything solid and NOT get stuck, so I play it safe.

This week is my first week of self-imposed NO liquid CALORIES. Of course it was snowing this morning on the way to work, and boy did a mocha seem like it would hit the cold spot. BUt, I stopped myself. I really want to see if I have been sabitaging (SP) myself or if I am really on a plateau. I haven't lost anything for 3 weeks now. I go up and down between 156 and 159 :) But, I press on.

Best wishes, Bikergirl, for tomorrow's surgery. No nightmares tonight!

Ok you guy's I had Water and NO SUGAR popsicles. I am now watching American Idol, I should be ok for awhile. I plan to go to bed around 9pm. I have the alarm set for 4:30am. I probably won't sleep at all - If I don't that will be fine - I will sleep well during my surgery.

I have my prescriptions filled, my OTC meds. I should be good to go. I'm actually driving myself to the Surgery Center so DH can get the kids off to school and then his friend is going to drop him off. Hope I remember where I park the car!!

My mother will be here on Friday.

Well, I will post later. Keep me in your prayers!!

Well Biker Girl, We are on our way to Band Land. Sending prayers your way for tomorrow, send some to me on friday. To all of our Band sisters on the lower BMI thread, I am raising my Protein Shake in a toast to the kind, supportive, smart, and soon to be thinner band sisters. May we all be big FAT losers in 2007. Truely you guys are a great source of inspiration. I don't post that often, but I read the posts everyday. I have learned so much, and really feel more prepared. Thanks Guys! Good Luck Tomorrow Biker Girl. Teresa

Hey Tea Time,

I didn't realize your surgery is on Friday. Yay you too! How is the liquid diet going? For me, the pre-op diet was absolutely horrible. I was really glad to have surgery just to be done with the pre-op diet.

Since my fill I have been really concentrating on not drinking for an hour after eating. I have been doing it, and I do think it makes a difference in my hunger.

There are a lot of rules we have to follow as bandsters, and I feel like I am gradually changing all of my bad habits into good habits. I am not hugely restricted but I feel like that is okay right now because I am building the foundation that will allow me to be healthy as my restriction gradually increases.

For me, the initial stages of my journey have really been learning a lot about how I got fat. I have been forced to really slow down, to concentrate on my food, to take smaller bites. Mindful eating instead of mowing through the buffet line. If I never lost a pound, just learning to eat this way has been worth it to me.

Right now I am having a bit of a time getting used to not drinking with my meals. It does make me think before I eat something though becasue I know I am waiting for an hour to drink. I have cut back on grazing because of this and I think that will stick as I get more used to it. I have also been walking the dogs immediately after dinner. I walk them anyway, but now I am out there for a few extra minutes. It makes my hour go by faster to be up and moving rather than sitting and waiting to eat.

So slowly the good habits are forming. Which is a good thing.

I agree. I have food getting stuck regularly so I am not going to get another fill when I have my next appointment. I don't want to PB. Maybe my esophagus is swelled too. I don't know why food gets stuck. I don't get it because I didn't think the food went through the band until the digestion process. If food is getting stuck that means it isn't making it through the band while I am eating. I thought it stayed in the new smaller stomach before the band. I have a lot of quesitons for my dr.

I can give you some suggestions for lunches but I don't know what you're already eating. Things I eat for lunch are tuna with low fat mayo, ( no bread or crackers) egg salad, lunch meat rolled up with low fat cream cheese, sometimes I have an Atkins Protein Bar, or lean cuisine or ww meals that have Protein and veggies. I don't eat any that have rice or noodles or anything like that.

Tea Time and Biker Girl, Best wishes for a surgery as simple as mine. I never had one second of pain. I know all will go well for both of you and we will support you during the liquid stage. One of the things that helped me when I felt deprived was getting egg flower Soup from the Chinese Restaraunt. I felt like it was more of a treat for some reason than any other soup.

Can't wait to hear how your're doing.

Last post before going to bed. I feel really good. I'm 1/2 way doing this on my own - my DH has to play superdad/husband. Since I have to be at the surgery center @ 6 am - My kids don't get on the bus until 6:30. My daughter is in a black history program and DH is going to try to make it to that, then after that he is going to come to hospital - Once home - he has to go to my oldest daughters open house 6-730. Our kids are very important to us and I understand if he can't physically be there, I really hate I'm going to miss my daughters program - But I took her to buy her outfit and she understands. Well - thanks for the prayers, Post again as a bander.

Tea Time - I will not be able to post before you have surgery so Good Luck, and I will pray for you!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
