ANGELA

I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM SINCE THE DAY OF MY SURGERY. I TEND TO NOTICE IT MORE IF I OVEREAT OR IF I DRINK SOMETHING THAT IS CARBONATED. WALKING SEEMS TO RELIEVE IT. THE DOCTOR HAS NO CLUE AS TO WHY OR WHAT TO DO FOR IT. GOOD LUCK AND IF YOU FIGURE OUT ANYTHING DIFFERENT I WOULD APPRECIATE THE INFO.

That is my only bad side affect to having the band. I still get it a couple times a month. I was told it is gas that touches a nerve behind your stomach and causes pain in your shoulder. I know the only thing that makes it any better for me is to lay on my left side. Sometimes I can actually hear and feel a huge gas bubble move around in there and then it finally comes out and I feel relief. Hope thats not to much info. It just really helps me. I sometimes have to move from side to side and work it out of there. The bad thing is when we are out with people and I am in pain and cant do anything for it. That happened last night and I was so happy to get home. Good luck to you. I know its annoying.

Just my two cents worth. My wife experiences the left shoulder pain when she is getting hungry. Or.....when she has a little stomach gas. She pops a Gas-X and it USUALLY goes away.

I've stuck my 2 cents worth in the other threads about left arm/shoulder pain,,,I'll say it again here. I woke up abut 2 weeks ago with horrific left shoulder/bicep pain. Sharp, stabbing,,aching pain,,,allllllll day and night for 8 days. I took every pill I could find,,gas-x, ,alox, muscle relaxers, pain pills, anti anxiety pills, sleeping pills(all left overs from nothing related to upper body stuff) and NOTHING relieved the pain. Then,,,I woke up one morning and it was almost gone. It still has an occasional deep aching in my shoulder down the top of mya rm,,and it tingles and is numb most the time but the pain is hardly noticable. It never mattered what I ate,,or how much, or when. I'm beginning to think it IS a nerve that becomes impinged during surgeryand only shows up after significant weight loss. That's MY theory anyway. As long as it doesnt start hurting horribly bad again,,I can live with the numbness and tingling. WHEW! I think I've finally gotten it out of my system. Thanks !

My left shoulder is driving me nuts. I had surgery on the 17th and it has been so sore. I did a barium swallow today and the doctor said he could see a big gas bubble. Oh yay. I haven't taken anything for it coz I'm not sure what is ok that we can get here in Australia.

If it is in the shoulder tip, it is referred pain from having surgery to your stomach. Weird huh? I had it after my surgery, and it is all gone now.

Carmel, I am in Australia too, and I would take neurofen if it gets too bad.

Thanks Scarlet.

The wheat bag has been helping and I tried some Mylanta a little while ago. I've got some nurofen so I might take that before bed so I can get comfy sleep :D

I read an article that someone posted on here.... says that it has something to due with the gas they use to inflate your belly for surgery................... I would think that dr. would know that if that be the case however!:rolleyes

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to. And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed. I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
