Help! I need some reassurance

Recommended Posts

From reading the different threads it appears that I may be rushing things. It also seems like everyone weight loss is different. I had my surgery April 16. I weighed 297 when I started the pre-op 10 day liquid diet. Three days after the sleeve I weighed 283. Ten days later I weighed 264 and 1 day later I weighed 262. I haven't weighed myself since April 30, but can tell I've lost more weight.

I'm struggling with eating. Can't do purée. It's gross to me and reminds me of the food in Nursing Homes. I tried some thinly sliced turkey today with some light Swiss cheese spread and I had no chest issues which has been my issue. The horrible chest pain after eating certain foods.

Tired of Protein shakes so has started on fruit smoothies with Protein and Protein Bars. Vitamins are okay.

My NUT told me on the 30th to start solids like Turkey, eggs, string cheese, grilled chicken, mash potatoes. Tried chicken & eggs and that didn't go we'll, or at least not at the second attempt. Tried scramble eggs with Applesauce and that didn't go we'll.

I've decided to stay with liquids for the most part, but want to make sure I'm getting enough nutrients.

I know, I know do as your surgeon instructs. Just wanted some feedback.

Thanks!

WLS definitely requires patience. Remember to only try one new thing at a time so you know which thing doesn't agree with you. The tightness in your chest could be from eating too much or too fast so try to take Tiny bites at first. Using baby silverware helps remind you. Just try a bite or two to start with. Your tummy hasn't had solids for a few weeks so it does want to revolt a little. Remember to watch the fat and sugar content because they are harder for your new tummy to digest. Hang in there. It does get better!!

When I first started on Solid foods again my stomach did not like them, at all. The best advice i have is make sure you chew your food really really really well, and eat slowly. The baby silverware is a good idea! I might have to try that out as i still tend to eat a little to fast, but hey, it's a learning curve. If the solids are not sitting well, stick to the softer things, like yogurt and cottage cheese etc for a few more days. Everyone heals differently, so maybe your tummy isn't quite ready for solids yet. Ease your tummy into it, a bite or 2 of a soft solid, like, tuna, or canned chicken. Then the rest being a non solid, some Soup or yogurt or something. Hope this helps!!

If you have the fever for a week or more, call him again, or just go in. Fever for a few days, especially low grade can just be a result of your body dealing with the surgery, but if it lasts much longer than that i'd want a second opinion.

Thanks. I'm starting to think its how I'm eating more than what. I'm currently drinking a 24oz blended smoothie and its going down fine.

I noticed I start my liquids late. Besides this smoothie I've only had about 4oz of liquids today. However, I do try to keep bottled Water with me at all times.

Guess it just takes patience....

You know the NUT does tell you to buy the little kid place set to help with eating small bites and portions. I will definitely have to try this. Anything to help with eating. I'm o ready o give up on it right now.

I was a totally thinking I should wait at least month b4 trying to give my insides some time to heal.

Do you take pepcid everyday. I have a prescription my doc gave me to take 2 times a day. Maybe that would help your chest pain/indegestion

I was actually taking an over the counter generic form once a day. I'll reach out to the Dr. for a prescribed version. Thanks..

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
