Well here's an update...as far as I know (and I haven't seen the doc yet) everything went well! My stomach is just very sore and hurts like hell! They're coming to get me this morning for a sonogram, so I'll let you know how that goes!

Glad your hanging in there! Do they think you will have instant relief form the gerd and such?

Oh and does the surgeon have any thoughts on how to keep you from losing to much weight?

You're at goal right?

Sorry, I know your not feeling well just now but my tired brain is running a mile a minute this morning :)

Yes Laura they think this surgery will alleviate all my problems so that is good! I'm feeling a little better just some residual pain but nothing I can't tolerate.

Oh and I forgot to mention the weight loss...yes I am past my goal but the doc doesn't think I'll lose too much more...I'll just have to consume more...but with the acid reflux gone that'll make me feel better anyway!

Ok we'll I'm finally home...slept last night in my own bed which was not all that great considering I'm a side sleeper and there was no way I was getting off my back. The pain of this last surgery has been worse than any/all of the last 7 including the original sleeve put together. I gained a friggin' 15 pounds in Water weight from all the fluids they pumped in me...which is also the reason my stomach looks lopsided right now. They had to use 7 incision sites this time instead of the original 5, and the ones on my left side hurt the worst. Also, I'm starting all over on the liquids stages because he said it was even more important this time to let everything heal. And to top it off I was intubated this time and my throat is causing some serious trouble too...hard to swallow...

Anyway thought I'd give you all some insight on what's going on with me now....Btw, no one understood why I was having the bypass at 141 pounds until I explained it a hundred times over...to each nurse....lol!

Ouch! I can't imagine the pain of having your poor stomach operated on again!! And the old incisions being opened up? Double ouch!

I can just imagine those nurses freaking out on how small you are getting the bypass! :P

Take care

Yeah I had to explain it a hundred times or so...they'd never seen one there.. And everyone always says "you're going thru all that for just a little acid reflux?" But no one understands how bad the reflux was or how many times I'd already thrown up that week or been thru getting woke up in the middle of the night choking...so yes it's quite risky and painful, but I wasn't absorbing any nutrients anyway with my sleeve the way it was... But on the funny side...I looked like a 46 year old pregnant woman when I walked myself outta there! So much swelling and all! Lol! And I can't wait for the swelling to go away so my stomach looks normal again...:)

Well I had my first follow up since surgery with my surgeon yesterday and it seems I have an infection in my left side...that's why my stomach is all swollen and lopsided...looks like an alien. So, they put me on clindamycin which i have to crush and eat the powder...OMG can you say nasty????????? I called the pharmacy and asked them if they have a liquid form of it and they said yes, course it's for kids so I'll have to take a much bigger dose. But anything is better than swallowing the powder which makes me gag! Anyway, no fever or anything like that so that's good and then I'll see him again next week.

Still doing good on liquids, could be a little better, but hey least they're staying down now and absolutely no reflux!

btw, as a side note, I lost back down to 145 so that's good too.

OMG, thank god they have it in liquid form!

I do not miss the days of crushing up horse pills!

That always made me want to throw up...

I hope the medicine works quickly. You've really been throw enough.

Yay! No reflux? That's awesome :)

And a small yay! for the 145...only cause I'm jealous and wish I was 145 :P

:D That made me smile...you'll get there! I had help believe me...doing it being sick isn't the best way to do it. I just have to take care to maintain around 140 and then not lose or gain any...it really will be like walking a tight rope.

Anyway, thanks for all the encouragement...I will keep you posted on the infection...it's really scary when you really think about it and all your insides and what they've already been thru without a freakin' infection!

Because the stomach acid gets mixed with the food in the intestine' date=' rather than the stomach.[/quote']

Sorry to be pedantic here, but in the interests of empowering us all with knowledge...

Stomach acids are produced in the stomach. Bile includes some digestive acids but other things too, including liver waste products.

The bile duct connects to the small intestine normally, not the stomach.

As both the bypass and the sleeve have less stomach acid being produced but into a smaller stomach (so perhaps under more pressure), I can only assume that Reflux improves because the stomach empties faster in the bypass due to the other intestinal changes.... So acid can't build up and come back up the oesophagus...???

Can anyone else confirm that?? I've reached the end of my knowledge with the anatomy lesson ; ).

I have reflux and had it before surgery but only since gaining weight, so my dr thought it ok to do the sleeve... as losing weight should reverse the reflux. Initially my reflux was greatly improved and I halved the amount of Nexium I was taking. However after about 2.5 months and a 20kg weight loss it's back! Nowhere near as bad as the OP, but as bad as it ever was for me. : (.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
