Just wondering what others did to prepare meals for when they aren't eating(but others in the house need to) I won't be having surg till Aug but I am starting to think of what I will need for single serve meals to freeze for my husband.

You are a good wife. I told mine he was on his own. And he was for quite awhile.

I told everyone in my family they were on their own.I have a older daughter living with us. So she has been cooking. My husband is dieting and trying to do shakes, because he refuse to have surgery. If I were you maybe you could make a head casseroles, chicken pot pies, Soups, anything you game freeze ahead time for your husband while your healing. This would be a great time to start cooking.I hope you have a freezer.Good luck, and I hope this helps a little.

Yeah you are a better woman than I, I also told my boyfriend that he will need to fend for himself but we have a deep-freeze full of food and it's grilling season so I think he'll manage just fine :)

My husband has been just great. He wants to lose (not like I need to lose) and has been shopping for himself and trying several frozen dinners to see what is out there. It has been eye-opening, as he is really looking at the labels and calorie counts and information.

I do not plan to cook for quite a while, and once I get to where I can stomach a little more real food (scrambled egg???) we plan to eat out occasionally and I will just eat off his plate. Sounds like a good plan to me!

I cooked a lot of meals and froze them for my husband and 2 young kids. I would just buy double or triple ingredients when i cooked a particular meal (before surgery) , made a big batch and freeze leftovers. Spaghetti meat sauce, chili, beef stroganoff, chicken tetrazzini, bean Soup, hamburger patties, etc. my family will still need to eat when I am recovering. Now it's easier on my husband, and ill be able to rest.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
