5 Days Post Op...Getting in only 176 calories

Recommended Posts

This topic covers exactly what I was thinking today. I'm 5 days out so every day is something new! How will I ever get in that much liquid let alone calories or Protein? I'm tired and my shoulders are still very sore just from walking around for a bit. Plus every little gurgle makes me afraid tht something is wrong and I feel every little drop that goes in my stomach. Guess it gets better with time! Not that it has been that bad, I just seem to have more questions every day. Glad to know there are other out there asking the same questions :)

I used dr. sergio verboonen. I can understand the sweet thing. I eat 6 of the Quaker carmel mini rice cakes if I want something sweet plus it has crunch and at least whole grain. I get tired of the chocolate shakes so I mix mine with coffee, a splash of Toriani vanilla bean SF Syrup and a Splenda over ice. It's yummy lol.

That's great that you got more Protein in. A couple more g's or oz of fluids today, a few more tomorrow, and before you know it your there. If you don't have a good day, focus on what you did wrong today and try to change what you do tomorrow. Bad days happen! Just pick up and keep going. Today has been a bad one for me. I've only had 41 g's Protein and 269 calories. I've got a horrible cold and trying to keep fluids going although I have had a few bites of chicken and black Beans. Doing the best I can today and tomorrow hopefully I will feel better and get back on track!

vlb4VOLS, I use Dymatize ISO-100 Protein powder shake. It has the most Protein per scoop and it really tastes great. It does NOT have many calories though..only 105 calories per 25 grams of protein. But, best of all it mixes great and tastes awesome. They have lots of flavors online and in most stores.

I am 10 days out and am only getting about 600-800 calories per day and getting 80 grams of protein per day. I am starting to experiment with pureed foods. I am good with most of them and they have all agreed. I did try to chew up a bite of my wifes egg yesterday and chewed till it was applesauce, but that did not work. First time anything came back up.

Stepped on the scale for the first time since surgery at 10 days. I was 308 at surgery and now I am at 285. (23 pounds in 10 days) Wooo hoooo! I have been walking a mile + every day which I am sure has helped.

WOW 23 lbs in 10 days is amazing!! Unfortunately, my doctor said I can't have any Protein Shakes until after 10 days of my surgery...I am on Day 6 today so I still have 4 more days to go before I can start drinking my shakes.< /p>

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
