5 Days Post Op...Getting in only 176 calories

Hi I just had my surgery 5 Days ago and am barely getting in 176 calories and 40 gm of protein. Been living off Unjury chicken broth, sugar free popsicles, and PowerAid Zero. What else did you guys eat/drink during Phase 1?

  • I'm 8 weeks out and I completely know what your talking about. Just taking a shower would leave me exhausted! I know some people can, but I couldn't get my protein in because I couldn't sip that much

  • Remember to do the best YOU can do each day and don't compare yourself to others...cause were all different! A month from now you will look back on the first week and think, well that was easy!

Take it easy! 176 calories is not bad for the first week. Try some of the ready to drink iso pure. I like the apple melon.

Doctor said I can't have protein shakes until Phase 2. Are those ready to drink Isopure clear liquids?

Yes...their like Gatorade. I don't know why you couldn't have them IMO.

I feel like you just posted what is on my mind. I also am getting under 200 cals a day and am FAR from the recomended protein intake. I find myself feeling hungry but I eat a jello and then I feel like my stomach is doing flips. Today is the first day too that I don't feel so dang tired!!!!

I'm also 5 days post op. I am only able to drink minimal amounts of any kind of liquids. I feel as if I just don't have the desire for any of it to be honest. I open a new bottle of Isopure each day and probably only get 1/2 in a days time. I feel every little drop of everything going down and it's very weird. Does this ever go away???

I know some people can, but I couldn't get my protein in because I couldn't sip that much. It gets better I promise. About 4 weeks out I was getting my 60 of protein. Now, I can pretty much drink like I did preop and getting 100 a day of protein. I found the more protein I got in, the more energy I had and the better I felt. Hangin there, each day it gets better. :)

Thank you for your feedback. I feel better because I was getting worried. I'll just keep trying to sip as much as I can.

Are you counting calories? I'm almost 8 weeks out and getting between 400-600 calories a day. Just wondering how that compares to others.

My doctor told me it could take a week or two to get the recommended amount of protein and fluid ounces in.

I am using my fitness pal. I shoot for 800 a day. Most days I get around 600 ish because I get busy and forget my snacks. With me, the more I eat the more I lose. I was a total carb nazi when I started, but I started adding whole grains and some fruit and it broke my two week stall. I've broke 1000 twice but it was my TOM and it was like I couldn't get enough to eat lol.

I am 4 days out and can only get in 40 gm of protein. I get a total of at least 48 oz of Fluid....but it's hard cause I can only have 4 oz each hour I consume including my pain meds. This is hard!

Thanks for sharing. A few days ago I was barely getting 400. I've decided to push for 600 minimum to try to stir things up. We'll see how it goes.

Thank you soooo much TexasMiss. I am 11 days out and I am having trouble with my protien intake. I was told to get 80 grams of protien a day. Man its hard!!! I got about 65g yesterday and 77g today. It makes me feel sick. If you don't mind me asking, who was your doctor? I was a sweet junkie before but with all this chocolate proyien powder, Im ready for some real food flavor!!

This topic covers exactly what I was thinking today. I'm 5 days out so every day is something new! How will I ever get in that much liquid let alone calories or protein? I'm tired and my shoulders are still very sore just from walking around for a bit. Plus every little gurgle makes me afraid tht something is wrong and I feel every little drop that goes in my stomach. Guess it gets better with time! Not that it has been that bad, I just seem to have more questions every day. Glad to know there are other out there asking the same questions :)
