I need some serious meal planning help

Recommended Posts

I've always been awful with meal planning. I don't get my surgery date until May 30th when I meet with my surgeon but I'm trying to get a jump on it. Is there anyone that is willing to give me examples of what they eat in a typical day/week. Anyone that is willing to give me some pointers would be great. I'm also looking for meals that would also be baby friendly. My son will be around 1yr old by the time I have surgery and will be fully on solids and I really don't want to have to make 2 different meals 3x a day, 7 days a week. I know there is a food forum but I'm not really finding what I need there. As added incentive I'll add a picture of my cute little man, you can't help but love his face. :P

Are you referring to those six-eight weeks post op? Or more than 2 months post op and living with a healed sleeved stomach?

Honestly either would be helpful but I'm really needing help on the solid food after I'm cleared for it. It seems different dr's have different requirements on diet directly after (at least from what I've read) for liquid and soft foods and such so I planned to ask my surgeon about their requirements on what is ok.

Sorry I can't help but gee that is one gorgeous babe. I am in love<3

:P TYVM, he is the cutest little man ever. Every time I go to a dr appointment the nurses always ask if they can keep him lol. At my new OB/GYN I let the nurses play with him during my appointment if they aren't busy and it definitely makes their day.

I am one month post op and can now tolerate chicken breast and canned tuna with Mayonnaise. I find the drier the meat, the harder it is to tolerate. I can also have thinly sliced lunch meat like turkey and ham. Light string cheese goes down great and has a good amount of Protein. Really mushy vegetables go down okay like broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. Just small amounts and slowly. I haven't tried any fruits yet. I have found the gluten free crackers go down great with a thin slice of cheese (also good protein). I can finally keep scrambled eggs down (yeah!). Of course Protein Shakes are great in the morning for a pick-me-up. I haven't tried any red meat yet except a small, tiny bite of a burger I was making for my son. I will have an occasional "Jamba Juice" with extra protein added. Goes down heavy though.

Also, mashed potatoes go down okay in very limited quantities as they are heavy and have lots of calories! Good luck. Let me know what else I can help with. Christi

It's kind of tough to give a menu when we don't know what your eating plan is post surgery. My dr had me on liquids for 1 week and solid food after that. Some ppl on here have like 2-3 weeks of liquids, then several weeks of mushy foods, then solids, ever dr is different. For me I did a lot of refried Beans, chicken salad, scrambled eggs and yogurt. No breads/grains for 6 months. Dinners I kinda did separate things from my husband which was kind if a pain, but now we eat together. Ooh, Jenny o turkey chili was a fave in the early days too. I enjoy chicken thighs on the BBQ, the meat stays tender and is easy to eat. It's important to get in as much Protein as you can when you eat. That will be a challenge, getting in 60-80 grams in the beginning.

And your son is adorable, I'm jealous!

Good luck!

I am two months out and Quiche was a favorite of mine early out. You can make them with veggies, or bacon and sausage, if finely chopped. Should be okay for a toddler, too.

I was also able to tolerate very moist meatballs, or meatloaf. You can add Pasta or potatoes for your son. Depending on your surgeon, you could have some mashed potatoes. I did, and was very satisfied with a teaspoon or two.

Also Soups with finely chopped chicken and very soft veggies. I think your son could have all of these, as he will be nibbling on finger foods.

One of my favorite things to do was to put a whole fryer in the crock pot, breast side down, with a cup of chicken broth and also a cup of white wine. Add onions, carrots, celery and let it cook slow, all day. The white meat is really moist. You can then pull off the meat and have options of eating the chicken, or making Soup. You could also make a pot pie, or fix some buscuits for your son, with gravy. You can have the gravy, but skip the biscuit of course.

cheese in any form has been good to me.

You and your son can have fun with similar meals, and many finger foods, of soft veggies, meats, and cheeses. And don't forget fish. It's an excellent source of Protein.< /p>

Good luck to you.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
