For Adults

The recommended daily intake of Biotin for men, women and pregnant females is 30 mcg. If you have difficulty getting enough of this nutrient from consuming biotin-rich foods, such as eggs, nuts, whole grains, Beans, fruits and vegetables, talk with your doctor about adding a Biotin supplement to your daily regimen.

For Biotin Deficiency

If you have unusually low biotin levels, your doctor may recommend adding a biotin supplement to your diet. Depending on your health status, your daily dose of biotin may range between 100 and 1000 mcg. However, health professionals with the University of Maryland Medical Center warn that the safety of biotin has only been established for daily doses of 30 to 600 mcg. For this reason, larger doses of biotin should only be used if you're under the direct care of a physician.

I've been using a liquid form, 3,000 mcgs per dose. I use it once a day and put it in a drink so I don't taste it. It's a "mixed berry" flavor, but it tastes like cough Syrup.

Biotin is not toxic. It won't harm you, you can't use "too much". However, post sleeve we get regular blood work, so if you're using too much I'm sure your MD would tell you.

Prior to using liquid, I was using a pill form and it was 1,000 mcgs.

Biotin takes about 6-8 months to start showing results, so I upped my dosage now (pre-op) so I can hopefully keep my hair from thinning too terribly when I'm at 3-4 months post-op like a lot of people experience.

I get my biotin at puritan.com, if you're interested. They have good deals.

I have been using 5000mgs a day for almost 3 weeks. My hair has grown half an inch an my nails are stronger and longer....

Now, I have seen people who take 10,000mgs a day and have had no adverse side effects.

Sleeve Date: March 28, 2013 Weight on surgery date: 281 First Goal 50lbs: July 13, 2013 (231)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
