First fill...

Recommended Posts

I just made my appointment for my first fill. I am feeling no restriction at all right now. I realize it is supposed to be part band and part self-control, but my control is waning because it is becoming too easy to eat more than I am supposed to.

What should I expect at my first fill?

Have a blessed day!

Lesley

What size band do you have? The 9.75cm that holds 4cc's or the bigger vg band that holds 10ccs? That will determine more about how much fill they will give you. It took 3 fills before I felt a big difference and my fills don't ever give me the full effect until about one week after I get one. You'll probably tell somewhat immediately but just not really good restriction until they hit your sweet spot. My sweet spot seems to be at 1.6 cc's in my 4cc's inamed 9.75cm low profile band. Keep us informed on how your fill goes. They're very very fast, about 10 seconds and not painful.

It sometimes take 3 or 4 fills before you get it right...i could still eat like a horse after my first fill...thats where some self control has to kick in. but you will eventually get your 'sweet spot' and its all downhill from there.

Good luck

:)

Frogger, what you are feeling is completely normal. It may take 2 or 3 fills to get to a good restriction level. When they give you a fill they have you sip Water. You should feel a girgling sound when it goes down. That will show you what level your restriction will be. Good luck.

Hi Frogger! I just had my first fill on Monday and it was pretty painless. They give you a numbing shot first, then fill you up. I got 1.2 cc in a 4cc band. I didn't really feel any pain (expect a poke/stinging with the numbing shot), but I did feel things moving around a little and I had some swelling near the port area. I have more restriction now than before the fill, but it's definitely not at the "sweet spot" yet. Good luck with your fill...let us know how it goes!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
