anyone feel GREAT three days out?

Recommended Posts

Okay--

So I know this silly to be thinking about but I thought I would ask anyway...

I just got my tentative surgery date for May 8. That's fantastic--just 2 weeks from today. The surgery is my priority, however, I have tickets to a concert for my favorite band of all time (Toad the Wet Sprocket) for May 11. I already know it's likely impossible to think about going, but I guess I just wanted you guys to confirm it. The concert is at a small theatre venue with seats. They rarely ever come to my area (Nashville) and don't tour much. Is there any chance at all I will feel like going? Were most of you guys still on pain meds on day three?

Thanks for the input!

I feel that I would have been fine going out 3 days after surgery. I was off meds the day I came home and back to work 5 days after surgery. You won't really know until you are living it, but if all goes well for you, bring a bottle of Water and enjoy!

It's a little hard to tell how you will feel. Make sure you have something for nausea & try to eat in enough time before you go to try to avoid the possibility of a sour stomach. This is all my opinion. Oh, also, if you have to do a lot of walking due to parking or anything else, I would take a Tylenol before leaving home. These are just a few precautions that popped into my head. I think you'll be fine, though. Stay seated as much as possible. Best of Luck! Have fun! Keep us updated.

I was feeling more like myself 3 days later, but my steps were still small & slow. I was off pain meds, but with the exception of a small walk here/there I wasn't all that active. You need to make sure that you're keeping yourself well hydrated or you're going to be feeling pretty meh & it's still kinda hard at that point to get much Fluid in. I think it might be a bit ambitious, but.. that's really up to you.

Be careful and make sure someone is with you. My biggest problem was tiring easily. Also, the pressure of the car made the gas from surgery go into my shoulder in a very painful way. Bring Water to sip on.

Thanks so much for the replies! I honestly thought everyone would tell me I was crazy for considering it. I think I will just wait and see how I feel. The ticket wasn't that expensive so it's not a big deal if I don't get to use it! I really do appreciate the input!

I felt like sh*t three days out lol. When I see people say they felt fine its so weird. I was still in so much pain 3 days out. And my energy level was poo!!! I wanted to go to the Rihanna concert in Atl on the 21st of this month but I didn't buy a ticket even though I would have been (and am currently) over a month out for fear that my energy would still be low. And I'm glad I made that decision. I'm doing great, going places, all that but as soon as I sit down the tired comes crashing over me. My opinion: sell those tickets and try to get as much money back as you can OR see if you can move your surgery date back a couple of weeks if its that important to you.

Had my surgery Monday morning and by Friday afternoon I was driving, off my pain meds and at a basketball game on Saturday morning. Good luck to you!

EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT.. But it's a possibility you can go. I was myself when I woke up from surgery. And I vacationed in MX as if I hadn't just had major surgery... Except the eating part anyway.

My surgery was the 11th, Sunday, at 10 days, I needed to attend a celebration of life. Still in severe pain, I took my meds right before the event, brought my pillow to protect and clutch, was in such weakness and shaking at 90 minutes, I had to be taken home early. I am still on meds for the searing pains inside

I was sleeved on 4/23, I had my gallbladder out and my surgeon informed me that I had a hiatal hernia. I was discharged yesterday. I am still in a significant amount of pain. Personally, I would not be able to attend a concert 3 days out. I know everyone is different but I wanted to share my story. I wish you the best of luck - let us know how you make out! - Nic

Thanks so much everyone--it's helpful to hear everyone's experiences. I will just wait and see how I feel, knowing that there will be a good chance I won't be up to it. That way I won't be disappointed!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
