How much protein should i eat a day

Recommended Posts

I am confused. I don't think i eat enough Protein in a day. I was banded in june of 2005 (about 18 months ago) and am always trying to find new ways to eat healthy. I could have sworn that the dietitian (who i am no longer seeing) told me about 40 grams a day. I went to another site, a nutrition site, that said a women should get about 7 grams a day. Another site, one about exercise, said you should get about 1 gram per pound of body weight. Big difference! What were you told by your doctor or dietitian?

Most say that at a minimum 60g of Protein. You should be able to get that much each day with little difficulty. Make sure you eat your protein first, then your vegetables. Some use protein powders and shakes to supplement their daily intake.

My trainer told me if you are trying to lose weight and exercising you need 1 gr of Protein for body weight. The body builders do 1 1/2 grms per body weight, but they are trying to build muscles and Protein enables that.

When you are dieting, you lose muscle if you don't have enough protein. Bandster rules state that you should have minimum for 60 grms. Its hard to get more, but if you can, you should. Protein is the most important part of our diet.

Protein shakes will help. I add a scoop of Rocky Road Optimum Nutrition to my chocolate pudding and this helps me get my protein in. Also, a lot of people mix vanilla with their oatmeal.

Just make sure you are getting at least 60 in a day. It will also help with the hair loss, if you have problems with that.

1 gram per pound? Dayum! That's a lotta Protein for most of us newbies! How in the world would I get in 285 grams of Protein per day?

My doc recommended 60 - 80. Most people shoot for 100 or so. I'd be happy with that.

I see a dietitian or nutritnist (spelling) everytime I see my surgeon I also speak to her on a regular basis, she said the right amount is between 40 - 45 grams per day for a woman. About 15 grams per meal.

Eat your Protein first, veggies, and carbs...

My nutritionist says 0.7 to 1 gram per kilo of "ideal" body weight. I've read that recommendation numerous other places as well.

For tiny framed me, that means 40-45 grams. For a taller woman, that would be in the 50-60 g range.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
