My Life as a Bandster

Recommended Posts

HI: Everyone. Just got back from the diabetic dietician at hospital. Deprivation is not the way to go. If you like it, work it into your diet. One DQ is not going to hurt you, but I do agree eating as solice is a puzzle we all have to crack. I am sorry Bandiva for the shocking news you have just received. The age of your mother may be a good factor in her journey to fight breast cancer. Cancer does not spread as rapidly in the aged as it does the younger groups. Also, the suggestion to join a group that supports walking to show support is a great idea. Good luck and I hope you conquer your emotions. Doddie.

I was going to say much the same as Doddie. Cancer in older folks does spread less rapidly than in young people. This is because the overall rate of cell division slows as we age and this affects bad, the cancerous cells, along with the good. And there does seem to be many more survivors of breast cancer these days than there used to be. One of my closest friend's sister was diagnosed with level/stage 4 breast cancer 3 years ago. Level 4 is pretty much a death sentence but the specialists seemed to have fixed her up and now she is back at work. This woman was in her very early 50s when she was diagnosed and she works on the line for one of the car companies.

It is understandable that both you and your mum will be scared by this diagnosis of breast cancer. My advice would be that you accompany her to all of her medical appointments. Because she will be nervous she will miss a lot of information and she will neglect to ask questions. This is when two heads are better than one. You can act as both a second set of brains and an emotional support for her. And because you will have a proper understanding of the situation you will feel more in control of your own fears and you can assist her in mastering her fears.

:D from green.

Condolensces on your mom, I hope it all work out for the good.

Damn the DQ, they have combined my 2 favorite pre-band foods, Kit-kats and Blizzards. It could be my undoing.

Andrew

Hah! DQ doesn't do a thing for me but Haagen-D....oh, but that is very, very bad.:hungry: And it is everywhere, everywhere!:D

You all are so sweet and I appreciate you so much. The DQ thing....I was laughing when I read it because that is exactly what I had...a kitkat blizzard...and I got them to put some cherries in too. I just made my mouth Water.

My mom...we will not get any more news for about 10 days, they are checking to see if it has spread. I don't think they caught it early.

I had my first workout with my trainer today. It was great. My scale has also come down a couple pounds, I am at 232 for the last few days. I want to be 229 for April 20 (my birthday), so I have been being very good.

Thanks for making me laugh! Have a fabulous day everyone!

Victoria.

I haven't posted here in almost a month!! Where does the time go? I have had an upside down life the last month. Work has been super busy due to being short staffed and we moved and I am trying to get a second business going and work out and be there for my family.... you get the picture. It's ok tho, I know it is temporary and I am very happy.

I think I am doing a lot better in my eating. I am trying to be consious of food intake even when I am not feeling restriction. Next week will be hard, my mom is having a mastectomy and she is 78 so I am worried. I am leaving for GP on thursday and I will spend as long as I need to with her. Thoughts and prayers on monday the 14th would be so appreciated. I have to believe everything will be fine.

Well everyone, I hope this email finds you happy and healthy. Thanks for listening!

Victoria

Hi Everyone. Just thought I would pop in and say hi. I am doing well. The scale is giving me a hard time, but I am trying to stay focussed on inches right now. I have been doing 2 different boot camps, so something good must be happening.

NSV...my uniforms are a med now...a little tight, but still a med!!!

My mom had a mastectomy and unfortunatley the cancer has spread. They are starting chemo in a couple weeks. Your positive thoughts are appreciated. Thank you for the support.

I haven't had a fill since march...seem to be ok with that. Have a lot of restriction when I eat 'good' foods. I have someone helping me with nutrition, so that helps too.

That is all for now. I enjoy reading your posts, even though I don't always join in. Well, gotta run, I am off to bootcamp before work. Have a great day everyone!

Bandiva, I think that you are doing very well with your weight loss. It is supposed to be a gradual loss because that is better for your body - it gives it time to adjust - and you have lost a lot of weight, you know. 62 lbs is an impressive loss and you should be feeling proud, grrl!

I am so sorry to hear that your mum's cancer has spread. This is going to be a difficult time for your family and you have all my sympathy.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
