I know this has come up on the forum previously but I feel the need to post this...maybe for my mental health? I'm sort of kidding...

I admit to not being the most patient person ever. I have been known to be a little anal retentive and somewhat irritated if something isn't being done exactly as I would have (perfectly) done it.

Since my surgery, however, I seem to be very easily irritated. And anger? Oh boy, I've never angered so quickly in my life - and to the point of irrational rage. I was at a public event yesterday and someone slammed in to me, dumping hot nacho cheese and chili on my clothes and my husband's hands. She looked at her clothes to ensure nothing go on her then went on her way. No apology, no nothing. As I stomped off to the restroom facilities, I could feel my pulse pounding. I was grinding my teeth. My face was red. I felt like a bull; I've no doubt I looked like one. No kidding, I felt if I had run into her I'd have pummeled her to the floor. (In fact I did pass her an hour later and stared her down...waiting, hoping...)

I'm an alpha female, for sure, but I've never been overly aggressive like this. Any suggestions from folks out there who may be riding the same emotional and/or hormonal roller coaster?

My 1st week post surgery I was pissed at the world. I think it was from the surgery trauma. But I found that keying cars of idiot drivers mellows me out. :P

It's really normal for hormonal imbalances to put you on a roller coaster after major surgery and major weight loss. For me, I would have unexpected crying jags for no real reason after I had abdominal surgery a few years ago. I just suddenly felt so very sad! I was probably a bit emotional for a little over a month, then all of a sudden things evened back out and I was my normal self again.

If it's really causing you major stress, it would likely be worth it to talk to your doctor. Maybe you could go on some medication to "smooth things out" for the short term, while your body sorts itself out.

Good luck!

I am more irritable and get angry easier now (about 3 months out). I have considered getting on some medications for it... I never considered it being hormones. The other thought is seeing a therapist as there are probably underlying issues (for me) coming up now that I can't emotionally eat to deal my emotions.

I was evil the first couple of months out from surgery. EVIL. I was angry at everyone and everything and the most basic of things set me OFF. My poor dog even bore the brunt of it once and he is my baby. I had to change my route to work for a month or so due to not being able to tolerate school zones (I am not kidding, the thought of them and/or driving thru them enraged me).

My doctor increased the anxiety meds to help even things out until my mind settled down. She wanted to put me on depression meds but I did not think that was necessary and fought to stay off of them. Hang in there, it will pass or at least get better. :)

I went through a period of lashing out at my family for a couple of weeks. My wife and I rarely have a disagreement but we had a few during that time.

I am 4 months post op and have lost quite a bit... But I am so depressed and angry all the time, I don't even care about getting compliments or new clothes or anything!!! I am so frustrated to be feeling like this!!! I am just angry at the world and loosing hair (literally) and I just want to hide all day and not interact with anyone....I just want this to end...

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
