Newbie question...

OK, this may be a dumb question, but here goes. What happens when you reach goal weight? I mean if you have a lot of fill in your band, does the fill just stay there for always? :guess

Okay, I think I can answer this one! The band is adjusted to allow an individual to lose 1-2 lbs per week until goal. I believe at that point, some of the restriction is taken out, therefore, letting you maintain but not gain. But, once a bandster, always a bandster and the bandster rules and eating changes made with the band have to be adhered to regardless of the fill level.

Thanks, Jacky! I was thinking it would be along those lines, but oddly, I haven't found anything on the net that says so.

I have heard of some people just keeping their current fill if it is appropriate, I have heard others get a little unfill to just maintain and others actually had a hard time stopping the losing for a while. It did eventually stop but she was trying to eat more high calorie/ high fat items to stop it. LOL... Teresa

I never thought of what I am going to do when I reach goal...good thought and good to know....I guess for me it seems so far away besides so far the weight has been taking its time :D

When I was investigating banding this was a question that occurred to me. And then a split-second later it went out of my head. :D I know it will NEVER be a problem for me.

But, logically, it seems obvious that if someone really can't eat enough to maintain the weight they want, a small unfill is always possible. That's the beauty and miracle of our chosen WLS--it's infinitely adjustable. ;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
